    Default Finally

Been in hiding for 6 years since I moved to Florida. I don't have a active life style now and I am going through menopause. So I am at my fattest of fat. I am miserable, ashamed, and I think about killing myself on a daily basis. I decided to get a gastric sleve, my surgery is on April 26th witch would have been my dog's 16th birthday but he died. I hope this will help me improve my shitty life.

Bonnie, there's a truism around the WLS community that happens to be 100% true: "They operate on your stomach, not your brain."

If your statement that you think daily of killing yourself isn't an exaggeration, please seek and find the support of a good mental health therapist to support you on your path to recreate your life and find your way back to health.

We all got fat because we ate too much. But most of us ate (or still eat) too much due to emotional, psychological and self-destructive habits we must change. Changing our relationships with food and changing our lifestyle (around food, exercise and other ways of self-care) takes a significant commitment and a lot of hard work.

I wish you the very best as you work to regain your health on multiple fronts.

Your really need to find someone to talk to. Getting a sleeve does not cure depression and with depression having the sleeve can be extremely hard. Please seek help.

    Hey Bonnie!
Your message makes me really worried!! during my approval process, I had to meet with a psychiatrist: he said that the last studies did show that getting a sleeve could trigger suicide. I was really shocked and had no idea....Now, since I've been through the surgery myself, I can understand better how the change in our body (and the stomach does produce different hormones, not just hunger hormone ghrelin) can mess up with our heads...I have good days but also bad days (nauseous all day is a bad day), it's not always easy and I was not depressed before surgery....please meet with a psychiatrist before surgery and tell him how you feel, and make sure you can find support after your surgery. Being obese is a disease, we do need help from our doctors and there is no shame to ask for help. You are going through a lot right now, your dog, the menopause...you need to find a balance before the surgery, because you will need your strength, the first month everybody is pretty tired....good luck and take care

Bonnie I hate to hear the tears in your post. Please take the advice of some of the others here and look into seeing someone. I cant believe you live in florida and have been hiding yourself away. You need to get out there. Join a group or something to meet new people. Staying in just makes depression worse. I know how it feels being menapausal myself. The sleeve isnt going to take away all the pain that your keeping inside. It has to come out and be delt with so please seek a professional to help you through these difficult times before you have surgery.
