For those that work sedentary jobs (i.e. office work), how long did you take off from work? It seems like 2 weeks is about enough time to request off, but I wanted to see what everyone else thought - is that too much time? Not enough?
I took one week off, but ended up returning to work after two weeks just to use up extra PTO that was accumulating.
My recovery was relatively uncomplicated, so the two weeks was perfect. Mine was a same-say procedure: I had the surgery in the morning and returned home that same night. I needed no pain medication after the fourth postoperative day. Other than persistent fatigue and tiredness, I could have returned to work within a week, but simply wanted to rest another week.
Good luck to you!

I took the day after surgery off, and that was it. I had surgery on a Thursday (in Mexico) and flew home Sunday. It was back to work on Monday! I will admit that I felt like crap that day (still a little sick from anestesia), but nothing that I couldn't handle. If I did it again, I would definitely take a few days off. Good Luck!
I took 3 weeks off. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it flared up at 1 week post op and had to coordinate with my surgeon as well as my rheumatologist on what I could take. I was glad for the additional time to recover so when I returned I was active, and ready to be at work. My energy levels were down for the first week to 2- again not unusual with RA, but week 3 I could tell a huge difference and was able to start introducing solid foods.
I took 1 week off only because I had not had a vacation in years and wanted some sitting around time. I did sit much I did a ton of shopping at the flee markets in Miami, I think that was harder work than if I would have just went back to work..LOL
I really only needed about 2 days for rest and I was good.

Why is everyone having surgery in Mexico?
My guess is because of the cost savings. It's just so expensive to do it in the US that most can't afford it without insurance. I was also going to go to Mexico but it made my family so upset that I then made plans to go to Miami to see Dr. Choi instead. But that's a whole 'nother story....
Living 'way' up in VT the travel expenses would add a lot to the cost for me. I am quite surprised the quality is as good though, I've never heard about quality medical care from Mexico.
