Default 22lbs lost 27 days Post op!! Happy and SCARED

Ok so I am ECSTATIC that I have lost 22lbs with minimal to no effort, however I am very scared because I do not feel hungry, like EVER. I have to literally force myself to eat and I am focusing on my vitamins, water, and protein first.

By the end of most days, I realize that I have only had bits of not even one whole meal. I see pictures of people's food (before and after) at my stage and wonder if my sleeve is too tight? I know my weight loss will be slower than a person in their 300's (my starting weight was 222lbs and I am 5'11) however, I want to be able to eat at least what is recommended at the stage I am in!!!

Any tips, suggestions, or anything would be appreciated!! I'm convinced my sleeve is the size of my thumb lol HELP!

Ok, I am just over 1 year post op.

Your new tummy is very tiny and at it's smallest right after surgery. It will stretch a little over time, but if you follow your surgical guidelines, it will not stretch too much which would cause weight gain. Although, my surgeon's office said not to be shocked if you have a small regain as sometimes your body simply is happier and healthier at a different point than where it was at it's smallest post op. Make sense?

Also, the reason for not feeling hungry as the gland that lives in your stomach that produces the hunger hormone is in the part of your stomach that has been removed. You shouldn't feel true hunger. I eat on a schedule- meals and snacks so that I can be assured I'm getting all the nutrition I need and not going too long in between eating. I have gone more than 8 hours in between eating and I will never do that again. I was very cranky, and exhausted. I kept up with my water, but not food.

Good thing we're not in school anymore!....

Studies suggest that ghrelin enters the hippocampus of the brain from the blood and alters the connections between nerves and cells to enhance learning and memory. Learning is most effective throughout the day and when the stomach is empty, which is when ghrelin levels are higher.

I wouldn't worry about it. Keep focused on your protein and fluids and let go of the worry about volume. I am eating very very little at 3 weeks post op. Pre-surgery portions look ENORMOUS to me. A typical day for me now is 1/4 C yogurt, 11 oz protein shake, 1 cup broth with protein powder or creamed soup strained, and 1/2 C cottage cheese. No hunger. It is so strange not to feel stressed about portion size, hunger or calories. You are doing great, keep focused on regaining your strength, healing, learning to eat slowly and frequently and get your fluids in. Then enjoy the results!!

No need to worry. I didn't eat much the first couple of months out and didn't really feel hungry either. I had to force myself to try and drink my water and get in what protein I could. I was no where near the recommendations until about 3 months out or more; which is probably why I felt so tired to begin with. Just do what you can, take your vitamins and work up to what you are supposed to be getting in. It will be ok.

I had the same problem as you. I was so worried that I was going to become malnourished. I concentrated on vitamins and my blood work came out perfect. I remember that I would take 3 little nibbles and couldn't eat any more. My dietician told me to quit when I got full, even if I haven't eaten all the food. I did just that, and did just fine. The vitamins and water are so important since you are eating so little. Don't forget the stool softener too.
