    Thumbs up First Post

I have been following member posts on this forum for a few months now. I accompanied my daughter to Mexico this past December to have VSG surgery with Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras. Her results have been quite favorable so I am scheduled to take the plunge myself in April. I have worked thru many questions and concerns associated with the surgery while observing my daughters journey. It is a bit late in life for me to finally address my situation as I am 65 years old. But I am just tired of dragging all this extra weight around and I have mobility concerns as I grow older. I begin the pre-op diet on Tuesday as requested by Dr Alvarez.

I approach this process with great optimism as I want to let that thinner version of myself take the lead for the next many years. Thanks for participating on this wonderful site!

    Welcome!
It wasn't too late in life for me to improve the quality of my life. I was having mobility problems, worsening diabetes and HBP, and a list of other medical problems.
I'm 64 years young, and I feel better than I have in years!
Best of luck on your WLS journey.

Thanks WANAGL, I too have diabetes with its host of associated side effects and meds. Good to hear that another "Senior" is being successful with the Sleeve! Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks Tina. It is great to see that you have made some progress toward your goal. My daughter was sleeved in December and her dress size has dropped from a 16 to a 12. Upon watching her and reading this forum I had to ask myself, Why not me? Best of luck on your journey.

Never too late to improve your quality of life. I was 70 when i had my sleeve and my health is now excellent. Had a knee replacement and recovery went so much better with the weight off. I now hike, kayak, walk as far as i want pain free and i take no meds. I am now 74 and life is so much better. Good luck to you, you are worth this.

Hello new me, I must say that I thought that I was pushing the upper end of the age curve when I decided to move forward with this surgery at my current age of 65. But thanks to you and others on this forum I feel hopeful that I am still young enough to have this surgery, lose the weight, and have many more pleasurable golden years.

Hello, I think it is awesome that you are following in her foot steps. I have read a lot of good things about Dr. Alverez but I don't think I could go there. How safe is it there, I have read a lot of bad things but then I have heard bad things about Tijuana too.

    Hello lost looking,

From my daughter's experience I would say that having surgery with Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras Mexico is very safe. The patient spends two nights in a hospital which is one mile from the Texas border. You are picked up and dropped of in Texas so there is no driving in Mexico. He has English speaking patient coordinators which are available 24 hours per day. Dr Alvarez only does three surgeries per day unlike some of the Tijuana doctors.

You can see him discussing all topics related to the sleeve on YouTube by searching AskDrAShow. He is just a great person/surgeon.
