Default Adding flavor to shakes after surgery

I'm 11 days post op and wondering if I can add PB2 powder to my shakes yet. Does anyone know the answer? I don't want to jump the gun so I thought I'd check.

Are you past the clear liquid stage? If you have been approved by your surgeon/dietitian to drink full liquids (read: the ones you cannot see through), then PB2 powder would be an acceptable addition to your shakes.

Clear liquids should have ended day after you left hospital. I was on full liquid from then till 14 days then puree started.....2 weeks clear liquids !?

Each bariatric surgeon has different instructions regarding the speed of dietary progression. My surgeon was especially conservative. He required one full week of clear liquids post-op before progressing to full liquids.

Torani sugar free syrups. No added calories, yummy flavors (including peanut butter).
But yes, if you aren't on clear liquids, go ahead and add the PB2.

Rehabnurse is right all doctors have their own post-op and it is best to follow what the suggest. I would talk to either your surgeon or dietitian before adding anything if you are not sure.

    Good luck

I personally wouldn't do it yet, I was on clear liquids for at least a week after my surgery and I think I even went a little longer because I couldn't tolerate anything more. It will all come in due time and I'm not telling you not to do it but I would check with my Dr. first. Good Luck!

I was on clear liquids for two days after my surgery and full liquids for two weeks. I absolutely put PB2 in my shakes. I even put in a half serving of sugar free chocolate syrup and one inch of pureed banana to make my own chunky monkey shake. It was the GREATEST THING EVER. (it also took me all day to drink, so I had to make sure that sucker was bursting with protein.)

I'm nodding along with everyone else saying check with your surgeon's office. Every surgeon seems to have their own plan, and those plans will even vary from patient to patient, so it's best to talk to them directly to get some more nutrition information for you. Did they send you home from surgery with a plan to make it easier to know when to eat what? I was sent home with an "operators manual".

And MargeB is right on the money about those Torani sugar free syrups. I think I have like 5 of them at home right now. Love putting the sugar free Belgian Cookie syrup in my crockpot oatmeal!
