Day 5 Preop and Crashed!!!

I am So disgusted with myself! I can't believe I ate fast food. I tried everything to talk myself out of it, but couldn't. It was like I was this freak on overdrive. So scared the Dr will cancel Mondays surgery.

Did you take a laxative? If it were me I would take a laxative and just eat clear liquid.

Just get back on the diet. Don't lie about it if asked. The only reason I can see them canceling is if you ate after the cut off point prior to surgery. You had a slip. It's going to happen. This journey is not about perfection, it's about progress. The extreme restriction of the preop diet (which not all surgeons even require) makes it very difficult to adhere to. You will be fine.

What MargeB said. We are all human and make mistakes. Just get back to what you need to be doing and don't make a habit of cheating as this will become important when you can't eat that crap, heck you may not even want it after your surgery.

If you are still some days before surgery and get back on the pre-surgery prescribed diet, one slip up shouldn't cause the cancellation of your surgery. 4 days from surgery, right? Get right back on the liquid diet. Were you instructed to take a bottle of magnesium citrate the day before surgery? That's gonna clean your colon right the heck out and then some anyways (your butt will basically be on fire).

Take a breath, it's gonna be okay. But get right back on your diet, and please no more slips; if you have another slip this weekend, your liver might not shrink enough to do surgery.

I doubt the surgery will be completely canceled, but there's the chance that the surgeon will do an 'open' procedure if the liver is too enlarged and in the way. An open bariatric surgery involves a large incision from the navel to the sternum instead of the small 1-inch laparoscopic incisions.

That's true, I had mine done laparoscopically and forgot an open surgery was even an option. But I would not want an open surgery if I could possibly help it, to minimize the risk of infection.

My dr didn't require a preop diet and he actually encouraged me to eat whatever I wanted just not after midnight before surgery. Good luck!

I think your liver has to shrink. I believe it will be okay. Start back on your diet and maybe take a laxative. I am on my 4 th day and I still have 2 days to go. I haven't slipped but only by the grace of god. I think it is going to be ok. I am so sorry. Don't beat yourself up. Pick yourself up and start again. I didn't have to do a diet either, and my BMI was 52. I think every surgeon has their own policies, but I would think they would not cancel.

You will be FINE....drink a bottle of magnesium Citrate and do clear liquids for the next few days....try not to stress, I was on the pre op for 2 weeks and had a few slip ups and was fine.
