Just curious how everyone is doing and how you picked your "goal weight"
Just curious how everyone is doing and how you picked your "goal weight"
Hello,
I had surgery one day after you, lost 5 kgs before the last appointment in December with the surgeon, 3 kgs during the 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet, then 6 kgs from surgery day. So since my first appointment in September 2014 I lost 14 kgs (30 pounds).
But we are all different and won't lose weight on the same rhythm. What's really important for me right now is to follow the guidelines and look at my results after a little while...I can't wait to be at 6 months post op! I will start the cool sculpture at my weight loss center.
I had a discussion with my surgeon and my nutritionist to set my goal. They said that regarding my size, my age, I could expect to lose about 60 to 70% of my "extra weight". And expect a regain around 18 to 24 months. so I went with the lowest, 60% and I will work hard to avoid a regain when I reach the 18 months!
I must say that when I was on a diet, I was pretty much obsessed with my scale. Now, since I know it will come off whatever I do since I eat 2 TB by meal, I try to focus on other goals, like my water intake, because drinking is not always easy. Of course I eat mostly protein right now because its the beginning, but I like my veggies so I try to have some everyday, or pureed fruits.
take care,
HW : 150 kgs

5 year mark! ugh! Up to 160! Time to get back track!
I had my surgery 10 days ago. SW 246 sw 224 cw 205 gw 130. My goal weigh is 130 because of my height I am 5.4 and I weighed that before I got pregnant with my daughter. And I liked that weight. Maybe 125 to just have some wiggle room. I have lost a total of 41 lbs so far.
I started my trip at 384 lbs. No one asked me about a goal weight so I set my own at 225. My wife of 43 years had never seen me at 225 lbs. I suppose that I was at that weight nearly 50 years ago. I have reached a low weight of 206 lbs. but have been seesawing in the 206 to 209 range for quite awhile. I walk over four miles a day and have recently joined a gym to see if I could kick start more weight loss. At one of my doctor visits, I remember wanting to get below 250 lbs. and the doctor said that he was sure I could do it. He asked me for the first time what my goal weight was and when I told him 225, he wasn't sure that I would be able to do it. I was under 225 the next time that I saw him. I have a lot of extra skin that is not going to tone up at my age. I believe that if I got rid of the excess, I would be where I would like to be 185-190 but at my age (69), I don't think that I want to go through the surgery. In any case, I feel better than I have in a long, long time. I am happy that I made the decision that I did. I only wish that I had made it sooner. I read Teri's post above about eating 1900-2100 cals a day to maintain. I usually get about 1400 calories a day. Maybe I need to eat a little more.
Went from 214 to 140. I'm at the high end of the desirable weight range for my height, so no longer classified as overweight.
I didn't actually pick that weight, it picked me. I stopped losing and have been at the same weight, plus or minus one or two pounds, for about 18 months now.
I started my pre op diet on Jan 1st at 307. Surgery weight was 291 ( Jan 16th ) and now weigh 275. Thats 32 pounds but not lost for past couple of days. I think my body is catching up ! I set my goal at 150 but I bet when I reach 180 family an friends will be nagging me to stop as " I look gaunt " etc ...... But its because they are so used to me being fat and not a normal slim woman. I get excited every morning weighing myself lol

I actually would have been happy at 170 (70 pound loss) because that's when my ankles, feet and knees quit hurting.
My surgeon picked 160 (80 pound loss)....no idea why or how.
Before surgery I picked 150 (90 pound loss) because that's what I weighed in my 20's when I was fit and muscular
I finally stopped losing at 140ish (100 pound loss) and that's been an easy weight to maintain so that's where I've stayed for 17 months.
Don't get too hung up on the numbers. They are pretty arbitrary. Just get to where you are happy and healthy and can maintain without being miserable.
I was sleeved at age 68, am 5'5" tall, and was 235 pounds at my highest pre-op weight. I chose 150 pounds as my goal weight, because it was a nice, round number and 10-12 pounds lower than I'd weighed in 35 years. BTW, my surgeon never offered or suggested a goal for me. I think that was pretty smart, not to mention respectful.
I reached my goal weight at 8.5 months post-op. Then over the last 9 months I've slowly lost another 15 pounds and am holding steady now at 135 pounds.
I NEVER would have imagined that I would or could have lost 100 pounds or that I would feel so stable here, nutritionally and behaviorally. Or that I would look as good at this weight as I do -- although I must admit it takes a while to accustom yourself to looking so different. When I first ventured into 130-something territory I thought I looked like a string bean. And now I realize I don't look like a string bean, but am just normal-sized and look *fine*.
In addition to being a lot of other things, this WLS journey is a real head trip!

I had my surgery on January 12th 2016. Counting the Liquid diet two weeks before surgery until right now, I have lost 43 lbs. THe last 3 weeks was slower, like only 10 lbs lost in 3 weeks, but, I just started at the gym recently and am walking a lot on treadmill every night mon-friday. So that should get me going again! My goal is 180 lbs. I hope to be down below 250 at minimum by September as I plan on running a 5k.
I started the journey on Dec 21 @ 260lbs on the button. I started what I call the pre-pre-op diet right then (atkins ish), and then did the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. On the date of surgery, Jan 20, I weighed 237 lbs. About 4 days after surgery, I weighed 241 lbs. As of this morning, I weigh 225.5 lbs.
start weight - 260 lbs
pre-op diet/surgery day - 23 lbs lost (237)
4 days after surgery - 19 lbs lost (incl 4 lbs gain!) (241)
20 days after surgery - 34.5 lbs lost (225.5)
Edit - my goal is 145, which is about the middle point of my healthy weight range for my height and age (131 to 164)
