Hi everyone,
I am almost 3 weeks post surgery and I was just wondering how much exercise everyone was doing at this point? I am trying to walk for about 30-45mins a day, is this alright?
Thanks for your help!
My surgeon wanted us walking at least 10,000 steps ASAP. I was told no crunches until 3 months, I was lifting 40-60 pounds after just 3 weeks because of what my job entails, but this is just normal for me, not excessive, so my body was used to it. I walked 1-2 miles/day starting the day after surgery. Rode my recumbent bike for 20-30min starting two weeks postop. Got bored of that after 5-6 months and haven't exercised since. Never stepped foot in a gym. But I have a physical job and active lifestyle.....horseback riding, ranch chores, hiking, skiing, kayaking, etc.
i did a lot of walking - as much as possible. and when i was comfortable with a route i tried to do it faster. got up to multiple miles at a pace of about 17 min/mile. or just over 3mph on a treadmill. worked up to 5 miles per day and then more -- now if i dont do 3 miles i feel like a slacker
unlike kindle - i have a desk job
I started out walking, a lap around the block the day after I got home, then 2, then 3, etc. After about 6 weeks I felt like I could do more and purchased a good stationary bike which I've been riding every weekday before work. After 2 years this a a habit now. The wakeup comes WAY too early (4:20AM), but my day is just not right without it! These days I go for about 45 minutes, usually on hill intervals and burn about 500 calories. If I'm feeling tired, I get up and do it anyway, just on a flat course at a lower resistance, (still burn about 450 that way). It's about maintaining a lifelong habit for me.
Sounds good to me. Work up your distance slowly, don't overdo it to avoid injury.
