    Default Heightened sense of smell?

I noticed it in the hospital. I thought the nurses were burning their coffee every day. I am going on 6 months out and I can still smell everything like it is in the room with me. It's kind of a good thing though. It's not like I smell a food and have to have it. It's that some of the smells are strange and aren't directly related to cooking smells, etc. Does anyone else have this?

My sense of smell is keener in certain aspects...notably, other peoples' personal hygiene.

For example, now I can immediately tell whether a person showers using scented or unscented soap. I have become extremely sensitive to peoples' range of natural body scents, although no one's personal scent has offended me or anything like that. A person's individual, unique scent is not to be confused with raunchy body odor because the two phenomena aren't the same.

I know it sounds strange, but my sense of smell has become heightened.

You said it well Rehabnurse. There is definitely a difference between scent and smell. I have noticed that my "sent" is different. I'm not sure if it is from heightened sense of smell or change of diet causing it. I have always had a sharp nose. I should be a blood hound.

Me too. It is actually great because food is so enjoyable as though every inhalation is an ingestion, without calories.

I had that happen. It went away and back to normal about 3 months later.
