I am confused about what I can eat after surgery. This is my full liquid diet. Can I drink my protein shakes? I thought it had to be clear liquid. My protein drink is chocolate. Is that ok?
Depends on if your surgeon has you on clear liquids or just liquids. "Full liquids" usually means any liquid. What do the instructions they sent you home with say as far as suggested options? If it's full liquids you can do protein shakes, broth, pureed and strained soups, drinkable yogurt like Siggis or Kefir, juice, Gatorade, vitamin water, Bai5, herbal tea, milk, V8, etc etc. pretty much anything that passes through a straw (except carbonated beverages and alcohol)
Any flavor of protein shake is fine what is important is the amount of carbs, sugar & protein and last but not least the type of protein it is made of. Full liquid for most is Protein shakes and creamed soups that are very thin or runny. The best advise would be to contact your doctors post-op person or nutritionist and they should be able to give you the best advise as per your doctor.
Good luck

My surgeon's (you should check with yours) rule for "full liquid" was anything that is liquid in your mouth. For me, that included milk based protein drinks, Greek yogurt, runny cream of wheat\rice cereal, well whizzed, thinned bean soups, etc. I did a lot of Nectar iced lemon tea for the first couple of months as it mixes with water and was thinner and easier to get down for me early on.
