    Default Kinda Gross, sorry!

So I've been getting these horrible sores where my lower stomach rubs against my thigh. Does anyone know of a open sore cream I could get at a Walmart or Walgreen's? Thanks for your help!

Hello, I had something similiar. No open sores just some irritation my doc told me to keep the skin dry with some old fashioned baby powder. But u baby may need to check with ur primary doc since the skin has developed those open spots u may need some prescription cream to help it heal . Good luck

I dunno how to treat it, but I do know this ....

If you are careful to document with your PCP and your bariatric surgeon the problems that you're having right now (rashes, sores, etc. caused by a low "apron" of skin, your insurance will very probably pay for a paniculectomy to remove that excess apron of skin, once you've lost all your weight.

It's not the same (as good) as a tummy tuck. But it can help slim up your abdomen a lot. And when the paniculectomy is performed at the same time as a tummy tuck, I've read that the self-pay tummy tuck portion of the surgery is less expensive than if it were performed sans paniculectomy.

And my only point was that you should start documenting the problems NOW that you're having, to satisfy your insurance approval requirements should you decide to have plastics later.

P.S. It's very likely you already know all this stuff, in which case ... never mind.

Thank you Ann for your wonderful advise! I'm really hoping that being only 27, going on 28 in Feb that I'm still young enough to get rid of this stomach without plastic surgery... But! I think once I get insurance again in January, I should at least see a Bariatrics surgeon here to check up with and document my sores. I've had them for a few weeks now and just don't know how to get rid of them.

Thank you Sheila! I'll try the baby powder again. I have a toddler so I always have that around the house

I can't think of the name of it right now, but I use a spray powder. It's much easier for me to apply than regular powder.

My husband uses Gold Bond spray. He loves the new spray instead of the powder.

The Baby Gold Bond is fabulous. You don't have to reapply it everyday because of the zinc oxide and that is a definite plus for me. Plus it is mild. I don't know about you but I have had times when the rash was real bad and the powder burned like hell. This one doesn't.

Ugh it sure does burn! I've even tried my son's diaper rash cream and that usually works for the rash part, but these sores are stubborn. Thanks for all of your help everyone!

Hi, I heard some use diaper rash cream Another option Zeasorb AF (Anti Fungal) is another powder. Here is some info not sure if this what is but it sounds like it. Hope this helps

What Causes Intertrigo in the Folds of Skin?

Essentially, intertrigo is an inflammation of body folds, a red, scaly chafing where the skin-on-skin area prevents perspiration from evaporating and results in a fungal, bacterial or viral infection. As a consequence, this perpetually dark, damp, warm area becomes a breeding ground for the proliferation of yeasts or bacteria already on the skin. These multiply, become infected, the skin breaks and the rash spreads.

Because it involves skin folds, intertrigo is a common side effect of obesity and can occur under the arms, on the belly, between the thighs, in the groin and even behind the ears. Diabetics are particularly vulnerable as their immune systems are already compromised. As unattractive as the rash is, what disconcerts people even more is the foul, oozing smell that is so stubborn that it won’t abate until the infection is completely cleared.

In the breasts – whether in the slender or the overweight – the issue is as much about sag as it is about volume, though bigger breasted women tend to have it worse . . . because it’s all about skin on skin. What makes the underbust area particularly painful though is its constant rubbing against the bra.

Don't use the powder if the sores are open. I use a mixture of hydrocortisone cream and an antifungal cream for a few days when it's raw and then just focus on keeping it clean and dry. I dry the area with a blowdryer set to low/cool.

They also sell liners to keep things dry (dry is the MOST important). http://pambras.com/

There is also a product called "Glide" that prevents the skin from chafing.

I stopped using the powder once the weather cooled off, because it seemed that it was irritating the area more. But they noted the irritation on my hospital chart, and I will continue to mention it to my surgeon as long as it is an issue because I'm going to want that apron GONE.

Check with a doctor, though - open sores can easily get infected. If they become warm, raised, and you see streaks GO IMMEDIATELY to the doctor. I got cellulitis once, and it's not fun
