    Default This is tough

This is my first week after surgery. The hardest thing I am finding is having to eat the same stuff over and over again. I actually didn't mind protein powder until this week lol. I'm fairly sure I will be fine but I had a mishap yesterday and didn't eat a protein meal and missed a snack. Now mind you my furnace was broken but I definitely screwed up. When I came back in I wasn't even that hungry but I had a shake. I'm back on track today but I feel like why eat if I'm honestly not hungry? I mean I know the medical reasons and all that so I don't need that information. Has anyone ever felt bad because they missed a meal?

I have not had my surgery yet but they do have a clear protein drink called isopure. (I think that's the name) I plan on buying some

They must not have that in my area. I've never heard of it

The bottled Isopure is awesome - 20 oz bottles with 40 grams of protein (plus I add ice, and get another few ounces of liquid in). Cheapest I've seen them online is at luckyvitamin

They are clear, no thick texture or grit, and the punch and lemonade taste just like punch and lemonade (trying more flavors this week).
They also make a plain powder that I use with broths. I put the broth and the powder in my shaker, shake well, and then heat (do NOT boil, though).

They also carry the Isopure products at GNC - buy three and get one free. Worth it if it works for you. I just sip it all afternoon at work (still in preop mode, surgery is on the 23rd.

I know I'm going to have to work on this too. I'm planning on getting a pill reminder app and setting it to remind me to drink/eat/take vitamins

Definitely. I still mess up sometimes, just because I forget to eat. I got so dizzy half way through walking my dogs, that I was holding on to utility poles walking by & truly afraid I would not make it home without fainting.
Now besides putting coats on my dogs, gathering poop bags & leashes etc, it's part of my routine to drink a cup of water and make sure I've eaten recently.

Hi.. first week I didn't eat much at all... It hurt to eat and the gas was terrible. I was only allowed broth the first week and could only handle about two ounces if that. It gets better... Hope you feel better soon... GOOD LUCK!!

The first week was tough! Don't beat yourself up. Just do the best you can. Your body is healing and changing all at the same time. I was fine with the powder shakes until after surgery the thought of drinking one made me sick. I found a pre-made one that's great. I found I had major texture issues after but I'm 6 weeks out now and it seems to be getting better. Hang in there. YOU CAN DO IT!!

Confession: I hardly ever forget to eat, but I did this morning. Then went walking for 4 miles. Was not the smartest thing I ever did.

We won't be perfect. But we will do pretty well by doing the best we can and trying to do better tomorrow.

The first month I kind of had to look at food and water as part of my "prescription". I don't take my supplements because they taste good or I "want" them, I do it because it's prescribed. Nutrition and protein intake should be viewed the same way. Eventually, you'll feel like eating again, but until you do, it's okay to take in proper nutrition when you're "not hungry".

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.
