    Ugh....too many calcium rules:

    Calcium Absorption
Be mindful of the milligrams and “serving size” on the calcium supplement label. The body only can absorb 500-600mg of calcium at a time. So split your intake into three or more doses of 500-600mg spaced evenly throughout the day, and taken with food to aid absorption.

Do not combine calcium with iron-containing supplements. Separate calcium and iron-containing supplements by at least two-hours to maximize iron absorption and minimize gastrointestinal intolerance.

Vitamin D, magnesium and zinc aid calcium absorption. You need a minimum of 800IU of Vitamin D3 and 400mg of Magnesium. I find it easiest to take these as individual supplements at the same time with my calcium citrate. Yes, that’s a lot of pills but I have not found a compound formulation that provides the ideal amounts of each supplement.

I use skim milk by Fairlife to meet my calcium needs. It has 370g of calcium per 8oz. My doc told me I can skip the supplement if I can get 1000-1200g of calcium per day via food. I consume three 8 oz servings per day. Instead of water I use the skim milk in my bariatric advantage orange shake powder. I also use a cup of milk warmed up with decaf early gray tea and stevia in the mornings. I also use 2/3 c of the skim milk instead of water when I make my cream of wheat.

I too like Pam have a big bag of calcium carbonate chews from Costco (kirkland brand) I learned last week from my endocrinologist that I need calcium citrate and not carbonate. That is what started the skim milk discussion when I asked him if I need the supplement since I get three 8 oz serving a day plus I also eat one serving of 2% cottage cheese each day. My doc said, you are getting plenty of calcium no need for a supplement. He said if my dietary intake changes that I would need to take the supplement.

Hope my experience adds to the discussion. I am enjoying the nutrition facts more and more the further out I am.

Gah, I had an article saved from a while back stating calcium carbonate wasn't good at all for WLS patients. You have much less stomach acid in your reduced stomach. Calcium carbonate lowers the acid level tremendously in WLS patients and much more partially undigested food is passed to your intestines.

I use the soft calcium chews from HMR. The caramel flavored tastes like traditional caramel rather than "diet food". I pretend that I am being a naughty candy monster when I eat them. Candy!!!

I found Solaray Calcium Citrate Chewable on Amazon. They are orange flavored. They are ok but kind of chalky. I just made sure to drink water afterwards.

Be sure you guys are taking calcium citrate! I could only find those chewable online. (Building Blocks). We are not to take the other kinds.
