    Default Oh well

Well I talked to the gastric surgery coordinator and I don't qualify for the sleeve surgery, despite being technically and un-technically obese and have the trifecta of preexisting conditions. My BMI is 233 and I would have to gain 20+ pounds to meet my insurance requirements.
I guess it's back to my regular diet.
I'll be saying goodbye, unless I find a job and pay for it out of pocket.
    Good luck everyone.
    Andy

So very sorry to hear your bad news. However, it is said that all things happen for a reason so I am sure that you'll know one day what went wrong and probably be glad of it. The very best of luck to you.

I hate those insurance requirements. I hope you find a solution to this that works for you. Not sure about the bmi you listed, generally 30 and over is considered obese. There are good surgeons outside the US, as I'm sure you know if you've been on this board any time at all.

You don't need to leave the forum just because the sleeve is up in the air. Best of luck to you.

I was very discouraged when I found out my insurance wouldn't even think about covering any type of weight loss surgery. However God found and way for me to come up with the money to pay out of pocket... Don't lose hope!!

Be persistent. Continue seeing a Dr at least to check your weight. Some Drs don't charge for that. I had to track weight and BP. I would walk in and Nurse would check quick and write it in my chart. See another weight loss Dr. Ins doesn't like paying for anything, are you on meds? All stuff that should be brought up. Good Luck......Keep fighting.

I'm on Medicare and Massachusetts subsidy called MassHealth, so I have a doctor. I take insulin and blood pressure meds. I'm also on SSDI, so unless I win Powerball or find a good paying job, out of pocket is out of the question. If I consulted with my doctor at the beginning of summer, I would of qualified with no problems. I've lost 40 pounds this summer between diet and exercise and plan on continuing, so hopefully I'll never be back in a situation where I would qualify.
