Hi Ann. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading your journey after WOW. Having only been sleeved 3 weeks Thursday. I have gained inspiration from reading your post. I just thought I would let you know and thank you. At least I have a clearer picture into what kind of loss is expected month by month. I know this is your own journey but thank you again for sharing. You inspire me. I can't wait to see the photograph/avatar of yourself I due course.

Trish, you're very welcome. So happy my story was useful to you. Your adventures will be peculiar to you, like most things about you are. Still, I bet you're going to be a raving success.

Just follow your doc's instrucs and use common sense. Nutritious food is invaluable to help you heal and to get your body craving healthy food that nourishes it. Highly processed foods are a big waste of calories and don't build the new good habits you'll need for the rest of your life. Exercise (and probably a variety of different kinds of exercise, eventually) is delicious to your new body. You'll get continuously stronger and lighter, making moving / exercising so much easier than it was before you had WLS. And then there are new haircuts, new clothes, new makeup, new shoes ... ooh la la!

Re the photo ... sorry to disappoint, but I am on the "down low" re WLS. So I don't post my photo here. Actually, I did post it for a few hours after my initial post in this thread, but that was almost 2 years ago and it's long gone. But I'm awfully cute, even a little bit hawt, for a 71-year-old lady. I swear, I feel better than I did in my 50s. For me, WLS has been a dream come true.

Ann, I actually printed out your post and keep it pinned up in my office as my go to guideline. (In a plastic sleeve gosh what a nerd I am) It falls in line with what my doc and nutritionist says but your blog/summation is much more fun to read.

I am almost 5 weeks post op, down 40# and already feel amazing. When I had my 2 week post op with my doc I asked him if he also gave me a lobotomy because my"mind hunger" has transformed into will power. On your rec I too am seeing a therapist to sort out why I used food these past 15 years as my comfort. This is a journey and the sleeve is merely a tool to help us get there. Going to a yoga class today for the first time in months and really looking forward to it now that my workout clothes fit so much better and I won't be so embarrassed. My hubby is so happy that I seem to be so much happier too.

Thanks so much for your inspiring story you truly are my hero. Keep posting when you can, it means so much to us. This struggle is real. This blog touches so many lives you have no idea ...

Good Lord, Jane and Gigi! What sweet things to read.

I can practically see you both vibrating with hope and commitment to your healthy new futures. Believe me, EVERYONE can have the miracle that WLS offers. The path really is well mapped. Although everyone will discover that there are some things that work better for them than "the majority" of folks, the principles are all pretty obvious.

Love yourselves. Care for yourselves like you deserve. Be present for as many of the minutes of a day as you possibly can. Notice what you feel, what you think, what you do. All those things are related. There are no failures or mistakes. Just learning opportunities -- that you will only learn from if you pay attention to what is going on.

Jane, I'm happy to hear you're seeing a therapist and that you're taking up yoga. I didn't start yoga in earnest until 14 months ago, and I LOVE IT! It is just an amazing way to learn about your body again.

Gigi, very best wishes to you as you head into surgery. Take lots of hydration and protein as much as you can -- you'll get to your minimum 60 grams as soon as your new sleeve will allow. Then all the post-op phases will go faster than you might be worrying they will. After Month One, you'll be figuring it all out much easier.

One thing we all forget after WLS is how much courage we actually summoned to have the surgery. Honestly, we all deserve gold medals for our courage. It's a leap off a tall bridge to do this thing. And then on the way down we miraculously sprout wings and fly.

    xoxoxo

    Ann

Oh Ann! You crack me up!!!

Have you seen Sally Fields in Hello My Name is Doris? OhMGoodness she gets herself in a heap of trouble for a younger ( think millennial! ) man, and she ends up in a photoshoot for a crunge band and talk about HAWT! I can totally picture you in a photoshoot doing your thang!

Was it it you who said you glad you had WLS as older or else you'd be whoring around!?! I loved it sooo much I mentioned it to my partner and he kinda looked worried! But I did mine irregardless of weight after divorce so I'm good I told him, Ha!

I know this is an old post but I want to thank you so much for the advice you offer here. I'm 63 and will have my surgery 2 weeks before my 64th birthday. You've answered many of the questions I have, especially when I realized I was one of the older sleevers on this forum. I just want to be healthy and active again and I've dug myself into a hole too deep (too heavy to exercise safely). Also, I've been fortunate to be healthy except for my extra weight and I don't want to start down the "old and sick" road. I want to be active for grandchildren (soon, I hope!) and others in my life. So thanks for going before me and sharing your experience to clearly.
