    Unhappy Hungry Sweet Tooth

    Hey there fellow sleevers,

I had my sleeve done in Dec last year.
Since my surgery I have had a very sweet tooth... I have eaten more lollies since than my whole life.
I also feel hungry every two hours... I just don't understand it at all. My husband had the same operation at the same time and does not need to eat as often as me.

I have been a diabetic for 22 years and I am wondering if it is my diabetes medication that is making me hungry as this is the only difference I can see between the two of us.
I have not managed to lessen my medication for this either.

The sweet tooth thing is also strange and have only heard of one other person who likes sweet things heaps more since having the operation..
Anyone have any advice on this one??
    I am a bit puzzled.
I started off at 90kgs and went down to 74kgs and now I have gone back up to 77kgs.
I know I didn't have a huge starting weight like some but it is all still weight and damn annoying to be putting it back on.

Any suggestions would be well received..

    Thanks

I like sweets too, but have found if I have any, I end up wanting more & get into a cycle with them.
Can you taper off & resolve to go a few days without sweets? If I can get them out of my system I stop having cravings. Try a sugar free popsicle if you really need a little sweet something? See if the sweet tooth gets less powerful after the sweets are out of your system. Worth a try. Our little stomachs help but would be terrible to gain back the weight from too many sweets.

I found out I was pre-diabetic, when my A1C was checked after I lost most of my extra weight. My doc told me that diabetes gets worse as we get older, and that if I didn't exercise more & watch my diet I would certainly progress to full fledged diabetes. That scared the daylights out of me, after a long career in nursing I've seen how devastating complications of diabetes are. This isn't just weight, it's your health. Sorry if this sounds harsh, just worried for you. Sending you my best wishes for success.

Thanks Luann, I will give the weening off the sweet things a go...
I have also been thinking of getting back on track with maybe writing everything down again so I know if I am getting enough protein.. I know I am getting enough fluid...

I will see how that all goes..

    Thanks again for your advice.

    You are so welcome, Sneeki.
Another thought, on the diabetes medication making you hungry. Are your numbers ok, are you checking your blood sugar often enough? Just curious if it may be dipping low sometimes, & if that might be making you crave sweets. I know it is pretty common after this surgery to need less of meds for blood sugar or high blood pressure - might be good to do an extra check of your blood sugar when you get another bad sweets craving.

Hmm I have a sweet tooth too and drink my Syntrax Matrix protein shakes whenever I start looking at other sweet things. It's sweet and low in Carbs so it really helps me. Are you drinking liquids while you eat? That would make you much more hungry because it flushes out the food you just ate. Grazing is NOT a good idea. You'll want to stop that. You may not be eating enough calories. Good luck!

    5th mo = 11 pds
    6th mo = 9 pds
    7th mo = 4 pds
8th mo = 1 pd (bad food choices)

I agree with Luann. It's a downward spiral for me if I start eating sweets. Never ends with just one. It would make sense if you were craving sugar when your glucose is low, if the craving doesn't go away could it be your meds?
Either way, you caught yourself and that's good. Do you exercise?

I'm hungry every two to three hours too, and I don't take any medications. So it might just be something some of us have to deal with. I can't eat a whole lot each time, but I do have to eat something or I get so hungry it makes me nauseous.

    Luann,

Thanks for another reply, I do check my sugars often but I might do it a bit more often when my cravings are bugging me and it might give me a better view of it to tell my GP.
I haven't been able to reduce any of my meds yet for Diabetes or High Blood Pressure.
    I am not giving up..

    Thanks agin

    LaffeyTaffey,

Thanks for your advice, I don't drink water with my food or else I couldn't fit anything in...hehehe So I have never done that right from the start.
My aim this week is to mind my levels a bit more and cut down on carbs and up the protein and see how i go..

    Missbybee,

Thanks for your reply, I am glad but not glad to find someone else with the same problem. I don't feel it is a good way to be but as long as we stick to having a little when we are hungry and not a full meal we will be ok..

I have also tried ignoring the hunger but like you I get a nauseous feeling and light headed so i need to eat...

Keep in touch and let me know how you get along or any other tips you find out for why this happens.

    Thanks
