    Default Fed up 😢

Please feel free not to comment if you have nothing helpful or constructive to say! I apologise if this is boring and has been said many times before in numerous different threads! I never expected to feel so demoralised and frustrated after undergoing surgery.

I had my Surgery on the 30/06/15. I weighed 118kg morning of surgery. I returned to work 6 days post op (nurse). I am currently 109kg. I have lost 1kg in the last 4 weeks !!!! I understand the body can stall but for 4wks? I am drinking 2-3 litres a day. I am having 3 meals a day. I am not snacking. I am using a portion plate and weighing my protein (3 ounzes). I dog walk approx 2 miles on top of my work day. I am taking a multivitamin daily. Has anyone else experienced this? I must be honest I feel so depressed about this 😢.

I understand that some people are intolerant of others asking the same questions, but believe me I've researched this to the nth degree, I have asked my GP for a dietician referral but I'm so upset that this is yet another weight loss programme I've failed at!!

I would value some constructive input from people who are further down the line. I enjoy reading the various success stories and want mine to be successful too.

Hi. I understand the frustration. I wanted to blog about my stall and it is discouraging. I think you must contact your doc. Bring the post you just wrote so doc will know that you posted even with the possibility of others getting upset. Be clear with doc and keep a journal of what you eat. Maybe they will want to do a upper gi or something. Just guessing on that. I personally had to cut out the life fast yogurt and eat soft turkey and low carb foods. Please excuse typos. On my phone.

Don't give up! It sounds like you are encountering your first stall. It will pass. Everyone goes through at least one stall. It is your body catching up to the weight loss. Just continue to follow your doctor's instructions and you will be just fine!

Hun your not even 2months out give your body a chance to catch up to what you've just done.
This won't be the first nor the last stall through out your journey, listen to your body don't deprive yourself of anything/everything in moderation.
My last stall lasted almost 4 months, now I'm trying to maintain and I continue to lose be carful what you wish for!
I know the feeling all to well it's not all Daisies & Roses you have good weeks and bad.
Your frustrated, scale is not moving & your following everything to the T Stress doesn't help your body tends to hold on to fat as a reaction.
Just know you will start losing again really soon.....When you learn to accept & keep pushing forward!

So it isn't unusual for a stall to last this long? I did this privately with no Doctor, nutritional support. No Pre op advise. So forgive me for asking questions that you may find obvious. I have read about stalls and expected to not lose the same amount every week , even to not lose every week but I didn't expect to not lose for 4 weeks and I am really concerned that I'm either over eating, not eating enough or I've managed to stretch my stomach somehow. That's why I have asked for others experiences. Thank you for your comments.

Wendy, if I understand your situation you've said:

    * Your pre-op weight was 122 kg (268 pounds).
    * Your weight on surgery day (June 30, 2015) was 118 kg (260 pounds).
    * Today (August 8, 2015, 40 days after your surgery date) you weigh 109 kg (240 pounds).
    * So in 40 days you've lost 9 kg (20 pounds).

    What we don't know is:

    * Whether you did a pre-op diet, and how long and how severe a diet it was
    * How much protein, calories, carbs, and what kind of carbs you're eating daily post-op
    * Whether your surgeon gave you specific instructions on what and how much of what foods to eat post-op
    * Whether you're drinking with meals or not
    * How much water you're drinking daily
    * If you're grazing a lot between meals and, if so, on what
    * Whether you're consistently taking your vitamins / minerals
    * Whether you're taking any Rx meds that would slow your weight loss
    * Whether you're taking any antacids in response to reflux or GERD symptoms you have (which can mimic hunger)
    * How much you're exercising and walking on most days

If you can share some of that information ^^^ with us, we could give you more worthwhile observations and possibly some advice.

But even without that information, I can tell you that:

    * There's no way in hell you have stretched your stomach out. It's just not possible in 40 days post-op. It has, however, healed a lot and isn't nearly as swollen as it was immediately post-op, which means you can get more into your stomach. And that's fine.

    * You're losing faster than I did. It took me 61 days post-op to lose 22 pounds. (See my signature block below.)

    * It just sounds to me like you've hit a mother of a stall. Still, as I said above, you've lost more than I had at 40 days post-op. So I don't feel that sorry for you.

Hello Wendy. I understand that everyone has stalls for weeks and sometimes months...so I encourage you to be patient. Something that caught my attention was that you are only eating 3 ounces of protein per meal. My nutritionist has me eating 4 ounces (28 grams) of protein 3 times per day. Mayb you are not getting enough calories? Sometimes the body will hold on for dear life and adding a few extra calories helps.
    Best of luck.

Hi Ann , thanks for your reply, as I said in my original post I am eating 3 meals a day, not snacking, drinking 2-3 litres a day and using a portion plate and weighing my protein (3ounzes). I take a daily multivitamin, just started Vit D supplement as I have become deficient. I use protein shakes to boost my protein intake to approx 70g daily ( researched on Internet from various gastric surgery sites). I had a month of anti-coag injections and a month of PPI cover (anti acid) I work as a nurse full time and dog walk approx 2 miles a day on top of my 10 hr shift. Answers to the other information you queried I did high protein, low cal, low carb pre op diet (2 wks ) prior. Post op advise was liquids for 2 wks, then purée for 2 wks then normal diet adding foods as tolerated. I have now owned up to my GP about undergoing surgery ( I didn't want anyone to know I was a failure at dieting!! And he wasn't very receptive to diets in the past " you just need to cycle 30 mins a day" that will sort your weight out!) bearing in mind I had to have a total hip replacement at the age of 45 and needed to lose weight for the surgery to go ahead. My mobility was restricted and I have had numerous problems since and everyone's answer is always you need to lose weight. Hope this helps and thanks for your response.

Wendy, thanks for that info (again) and sorry for not comprehending it all earlier. It sounds to me like you're eating and drinking and exercising right. Again, my apologies for reading too fast.

So I'll double down with what I said before and that others, including projax5000 emphasized -- you're just in a mother of a stall.

How are your clothes feeling these last 4 weeks? Can you tell you're "losing inches" as we say over here in the States?

P.S. "Just cycle for 30 minutes every morning" -- no, that advice wouldn't have helped me either. LOL!

Hi, Wendy I really understand I was the same way. I couldn't understand why some people lose quickly and I was losing like a snail in a race. Then my doctor and site people and a friend told me this is my journey alone. I am in competition with no one. Your mental state can cause you not lose you, you must stay positive. I had to eat more and my doctor told me not to. I eat snacks but they are 2 slices of turkey , string cheese, yogurt etc. between my meals because I just was not getting enough. I am losing but again not as quickly as most on here but as long as the numbers are going down I could care less. Someone also said to me small victories are still victories celebrate them, and when was the last time you lost 20 pounds in 2 months. That one hurt but looking back it was the truth. Inches count celebrate those too. Ann is the best and others on here. You will succeed, stay positive.

Thank you all for your advice and positive words. I am not one for groups, forums, etc normally but have decided that maybe the reason I've failed so many times in the past is because I've always been "determined to go it alone!" Hence, I decided to join this forum. I know very little about life after a sleeve and want to give myself the best chance to finally shed this weight. Therefore, drawing on people's experience is going to be invaluable and very much appreciated.
