Hi i was wondering if anyone has come of high blood pressure meds after having the sleeve done, that would be great
My Sister in law came off of insulin, high blood pressure, and colusteral (sp) My niece insulin and blood pressure. My blood pressure is down but I was never on medication. Hope this helps.
I was off mine high blood pressure medication by the time I left the Hospital.... yipee!!!
I was completely off bp meds on day 5 post op. I should have been off on day 3, I was weak and felt faint but thought I had overdone it I was out shopping. My bp ran 194/97 with meds prior to surgery. When bp was checked on the morning of day 5 it had dropped to 113/77. Never had it been that low. I was on bp meds 27 years. Hope this helps! LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!!!
I am so excited for those that are getting to drop different RX's. That is great--lower blood pressure---no more insaline (sp) for some with diabetes-- that is such a gift and I know you just gotta be feeling better. By the grace of God my fat did not cause me to have those added medical problems, but my dad had diabetes (died of renal failure) and 13 different heart surgeries---I so did not want to go down that path and the hand writing was on the wall. My prayer is that my sleeve will help me protect my health in the future. AND of course the added benefit of being slimmer!!!
Upon deciding on having the sleeve as opposed to the band, we asked the surgeon which would be better for me, given my health issues (diabetes type 2, blood pressure, reflux, sleep apnea, and of course, obesity), and he said that not only did the sleeve give better weight loss results it would be the one to go for if I wanted to "smash the diabetes", which of course I did, as the next step in the medication chain was insulin.
Whilst in hospital I was told by no less than 3 hospital staff that people had been known to come off their diabetic medications within DAYS of having the surgery. Whilst that hasn't quite happened to me, I have been able to knock off the Diamicron (however I suspect more due to the fact that I am still on the liquid diet component of the post-op program), and was told that when my readings are consistently in the 5s & 6s (as opposed to the 9s they used to be in...on a good day), then I will be able to drop the Diabex down from 2 tabs twice daily to one tab twice daily...for starters.
As Dr Martin also repaired "a pretty impressive hiatus hernia" whilst he was there, I will also be able to lose the reflux medication in about another fortnight, according to the report I received when I left the hospital.
I also hope to give the blood pressure meds, including those wretched little fluid tablets the flick as my weight continues to go down.
Just think, once we're off all these horrid, liver wrecking medications, not only will we be cheaper to feed, we'll also be cheaper to medicate (lol)!
