    Default Almond milk question!

Hello! So I am on day 10 post op and I was wondering if we are allowed to make protein shakes with almond milk? My doctor said I am allowed other milk so I figured it is ok. I have not been able to stomach any premade protein shakes because of the thickness so I have had to get protein in other ways. I loved protein shakes prior to surgery so I am just trying to find alternatives. Thanks so much!

All Drs seem different with their answers. Mine preferred me using almond milk. I was allowed on day 3

almond milk is fine to use. Personally, I always used dairy milk because of the higher protein level (1g vs 8g per cup). But if you are lactose intolerant or don't like real milk, I don't know of any reason you couldn't use almond milk (or coconut or soy or rice, etc.) As for the premade shakes, I always thought they were too sweet and too thick and have always diluted them 1/2 and 1/2 with milk. Same with the powders...when they say mix with 8 oz milk or water I mix them with at least twice that much.

I prefer almond milk but am doing skim milk to get my protein up. As soon as I can eat more protein, I am going back to almond milk.

I always use either unsweetened cashew milk (even creamier and better tasting than almond milk IMO, and fewer calories), unsweetened vanilla almond milk, or for a treat, vanilla "hint of honey" almond milk. My dietician is fine with all those options.
