Water after you have eaten a meal?

How long do you wait until you drink water after you have had a meal(2-4oz)?

I am confused..some are saying an hour, some say 30mins.

My notes are saying wait atleast 30mins after and before, so which one is it and how long do you personally wait to start drinking water

I was told to wait 30 minutes but I find that I have no problem drinking something about 10-15 minutes after I eat.

sometimes i have to wait 1 hour..i can feel the food..other times i wait 30 minutes you have to reallly learn to listen to your body

I wait at least 30 minutes. Sometimes an hour.

I don't think it's a big deal.

Point is not to drink with meals and not to drink so soon after eating that you encourage the food in your stomach to leave there "early" and leave you feeling empty. When the food stays there a while that lets the tummy do its digestive work on your food.

I was told no drinking 15 mins before meals and 15 mins after meals but have found 25-35 mins work best for me. Your body will tell you whats best for your tummy

I was shown a demonstration at my doctors office of how water quickly pushes food out of your stomach which is why they suggest waiting 30 minutes so that your food has time to digest and so that you don't become hungry sooner.

Thank you, it makes sense though as it just flush the food out fast without doing its work in the stomach.. does anyone know whether the same applies for people who have regular sized stomach.. lol Should they also not drink atleast 30mins after a meal? just wondering.

All doctors say either 30 minutes or an hour. Mine said an hour so that your food can digest and you don't dilute digestive enzymes in your stomach. Also, you are supposed to stay fuller if you wait to drink.

If you watch the videos on Dr. Matthew Weiner's web site about bariatric myths, he says we should listen to our bodies and do what works for us. He thinks all the emphasis on not drinking fluids before and after eating is unnecessary. He wasn't my surgeon, but I like his ideas on this and other bariatric myths. He said that our bodies are much smarter than any blanket recommendations could be and if we want to have a little water when thirsty after a meal to go ahead if it feels OK. For me personally I find drinking immediately after eating if I have eaten quite a bit is uncomfortable, so I wait a while - but I don't worry about the 30-minute rule. I seem to stay full just fine even if I do drink a little bit, especially if I've eaten a smaller amount.
