Had Sleeve surgery on Monday... and OMG am I hungry... help...

Hello everyone...

My wife just suggested I write on here to ask for help. I had surgery on Monday. Things went well for the most part. And I'd be okay... except I was expecting NOT to be hungry.
But, I am so hungry.

I was under the impression that I wouldn't be hungry.

I know I'm using the word "hungry" too much... but it's kind of freaking me out.

I can deal with cravings and missing foods and things like that... but the hunger pains, my goodness...

Help!

Can I have broth or jello? According to my papers, it seems to just say water, sugar free teas, stuff like that?

I thought I was having hunger pains but it was actually gas pains. Are you taking Gas X every 6 hours? Once I did that I felt so much better.

Just an FYI. Got off a call with my doctor. He said ABSOLUTELY NO jello or broth or anything of the sort.
The hunger I'm feeling is not physical, it's mental. The body can only consume one oz of water over 20 minutes. Told me that hte jello or broth can be very dangerous.

Every surgeon has their own dietary guidelines but many of us have had 2 ounces of water over 15 minutes, along with soups(strained), broth and jello. We are all still here.

I have never heard of anyone told that broth is dangerous post op. That is all we usually eat the first few days.

I've never heard that either. The day after my leak test, I was given bouillion broth, a sugar free popsicle, and some ice water. I didnt really want any if it, but I'm glad my surgeon wasn't as strict as yours.

It is head hunger..
It is mental..
and yes i went thru it..
i am less hungry now than when i first got home..go figure..
it does get better.........................it really does

Every doctor is different, I am in no way understanding how broth is harmful as in many hospitals and surgical centers by day 2 if you are able to hold water in then broth, decaf coffee & tea are the next step. Many are put on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post op consisting of, water, decaf tea & coffee, sports drinks, protein shakes and yes broth.

Many times you feel hunger because either your body has not learned to say I am thirsty (this is common after any WLS procedure) or you very likely are having mild Acid Reflux. Most doctors will prescribe either an acid blocker or reducer for the first couple of weeks. just for this very problem.

If food was your comfort blanket then yes you can have head hunger but if you had a long pre-op then you really should be past any head hunger.

Congratulations on your surgery. I can stress enough to gets lots of protein. The premiere proteins gives you 160 calories, surgar 1gram and 30 proteins. Grrk yogurt is a good source of proteins. Also drink plenty fluids. Please be encourage your weight loss will be worth the journey. I hope in some small way that I have been able to encourage you.

Hey I was hungry after surgery too. Was given broth , jello, otterpops in Tijuana.
