    Smile Hello Ladies and Gentlemen

I have finally decided to have the gastric sleeve procedure to help me lose undesirable weight. I tried for the last 6 maybe 7 years to lose the weight I was gaining. Now, I have hbp, high cholesterol, and I use a c-pap machine. I am a young 50 year old woman, however, the extra weight makes me feel tired and unattractive.

I have not scheduled my surgery as of yet, but I will in the next few weeks for late October. The pre op instructions say no food, only protein shakes, no sugar, clear broth. I hope I can do it.

Any suggestions on a good pre-op instructions that you tried and it worked? Such as protein shakes with fruit, etc.

    Thanks,

    MrsVirginia

Well, fruit isn't a protein. Pure carbs / sugar. So no fruit.

My favorite protein drink was (and still is) GNC's Lean 25 shake. It has 170 calories and 25 grams of protein.

But everyone's tastes vary. You can buy several kinds and see which ones you like that have a high proportion of protein and low proportion of carbohydrates.

    Welcome.

I drank a lot of clear soups and broth. Get use to drinking a lot of water. 64 oz is the recommended daily amount. Good luck

The point of the pre-op diet is to lose weight quickly and shrink your liver so it isn't in the way when your surgeon operates on you. Most overweight people have larger livers than their slimmer counterparts, although many do not realize it. The pre-op diet shrinks the liver to reduce the risk of it being nicked or sliced during surgery.

You really should not be eating fruit during your pre-op diet. The more sugar you cut out of your pre-op diet, the faster you'll lose. Although fruits are healthy, fruit sugar (fructose) is still processed in the body the same exact way as simple sugars found in candies.

The moral of my post is to follow your surgeon's pre-op diet instructions. Do not try to circumvent them. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply and congratulations on your weight loss. I am lactose intolerant, so I am not sure if the GNC protein shake will work for me. However, I will take a look at it.
