I was supposed to abide by a two-week liquid diet, but mine only lasted the six days prior to my surgery. The diet left me hungry, shaking, dizzy, and suffering from chronic headaches. Also, I urinated frequently as my glycogen stores were being depleted. The point of the diet is to shrink your liver so it is out of the way during the surgery.
I lost 7 pounds in those six days; most of it was water weight. My surgeon said I did well with the diet because my liver was nice and small.
