    Unhappy too hungry too often!

One of the things with this surgery was the terrific hope that I wouldn't be hungry any more! But, no, I'm hungry about every 2 - 2 1/2 hours. I'm getting all my protein in when I eat (60+ grams/day) but I don't stay full. I'm eating very slowly, 15 - 20 minutes each meal, very small bites, lots of chewing, but I'm getting hungry way too soon! I'm even using protein shakes (Puritan's Pride whey protein for her, Muscle Milk light) as my in-between liquids, and still being hungry.
I'm only 4 weeks out from surgery, but I really thought this would be different....
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Are you eating real food yet?

    If so, what kind(s)?

If you're still getting most of your food from liquids (protein shakes, etc.), you'll not feel full restriction until you're eating protein foods.

Try eating 3 ounces of chicken (if you can) and see if you don't feel mucho restriction.

That's how restriction has long worked for me (since I could eat actual protein): Eat protein. Eat protein first. Then eat fibrous colored, veggies. Then eat fruit if you have more room. Then if you have even more room eat whole grains.

What will NOT give you any restriction are chips, cookies, crackers, white potatoes/rice/pasta. Those suckers are slider foods that leave your stomach quickly and move right into your intestine, leaving your stomach begging for more of the same slider foods. Yeah ... that doesn't work.

    Hi mutterma77
Are you sure its your stomach making you hungry?
You do know that your brain will play with you giving you what is known as "Head Hunger"
This is your old you and your old habits wanting to return.
If its coming from your sleeve you might be feeding gas and noise that comes from your new sized stomach that is not really hunger.
Try feeding what you are feeling with Sugar-free ice pops, Sugar-free jello, or Sugar-free pudding or a very sour lemon drop hard candy.
I do hope your hunger gets under control.

Hi Mutterma77. I feel your pain. I have always been hungry since surgery. I used to get so angry with our people who said "once you have the sleeve, you won't feel hungry any longer." For those of us who do, it is very frustrating!! I agree that once you get to the point of being able to eat real food that dense protein will keep you the most satisfied. But, as you see, we are all different. As long as you are feeling the restriction, you will not be able to eat too much at one sitting. But be careful with the grazing every two hours. It is a hard habit to break. Good luck to you.

I'm on "soft" food. I have been eating protein, protein, protein! I try to fill up those hunger pains with tea, sugar free pudding, jello, water. About all they do is help me put off the food until the 3 hour point! I'm not doing any junk food, breads, pastas, none of that! And I know when my pouch is full! And I know the pain of one bite too many! I just wish I wasn't hungry so often!

So sorry, mutterma. I hope that when you start eating regular foods (should be soon, huh?) that your restriction and satiety will increase.

Some say it might actually be stomach acid mimicking hunger. Have you taken Prilosec or Zantac or anything similar to see if that helps?

It's not acid. I take 2 omeprazoles a day. I'm just one of those that is stuck with hunger forever!

    Hi there,
I have found that to be true...I used to get hungry every 2-2 1/2 hrs. As well and I'd eat something protein...like chicken or tuna and 3-4 bites and that's all it took...I find that if you don't stick to program though it affects all this...the plan protien first, water and vits. It will change and the periods of hunger get fewer and farther in between...also I did this and I don't know if you do but do something else with your mind...like don't stress or think about it all the time then you won't even realize where the time has gone and you not being hungry...hope this helped.
    Good luck!
keep dreaming the dream and living the life!!!

    Dana
