Unhappy Will I ever get a good nights sleep?

    Hi all,
I had my surgery April 7th. Stayed an extra night in the hospital due to bleeding difficulties. This is my second night home and I just can't get any sleep. If I try to lay down it feels like there's a bag of cement on top of me, and forget sleeping on my side. I've tried propping up with pillows but that usually only lasts 1-2 hours. Did anyone else experience this? I know getting good sleep is essential for healing....

You shouldn't be in any pain now. Every one I have spoken to about the pain has said it was gone after the second or third night in hospital. I'm sure it will be gone very soon. Hang in there, sleep is coming

Do you have a recliner? I couldn't sleep in bed for 2 weeks (since I am a side sleeper). When I tried sleeping on my side my incisions pulled. I slept in the recliner. I didn't have any pain, but some night I was a bit anxious. On the nights I had a hard time falling asleep I put my headphones on with soft music and put the recliner back and the next thing I knew it was morning.
If you don't have a recliner do you know someone that could loan you one? I know that sounds a bit silly, but it isn't. We offered to lend a recliner to our son when he had his surgery, but he ended up buying one. He slept in it for several days after his surgery. Maybe there is a furniture rental place where you could rent one for a month. Just an idea. Another possibility is a wedge pillow. I was at Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day and saw that they had them in stock.
Sleep is really important to healing so do whatever you need to do to get your sleep. Take care of yourself and get creative about how you can sleep on your back for the next couple of weeks (if necessary).
Sending you healing, sleepy thoughts from Oregon.

I first lay on my side, and then wedged a small width pillow under/next to my tummy then rolled onto it partly onto my tummy (I don't sleep on my back). If that makes sense!
It helped heaps with that heavy feeling etc

Girl my 1st good sleep was 3 days ago. In day 16. I am a stomach sleeper so this was so hard Because I had to sleep on my back. I slept on a recliner for 5 days. Then I slept in my bed, but on my back. It does get better. Take your pain med to help you sleep at night. I was in pain for a good week. Now I am still sore and sometimes take my pain med to sleep. Everyone is different sonyou do what makes you feel comfortable. Wishing you speedy recovery

I slept on a recliner couch for 2 weeks as I am a belly sleeper. Take your pain medication or some Tylenol (whatever your dr advised) before bed time. You need to be able to rest comfortably & I was most comfortable in the recliner. It does get better, do not worry. Try a heating pad over your belly. That was another life saver for my tummy.

It took awhile for me. I was propped up in bed, not able to sleep on my side. A recliner is a good idea. You'll get through this part soon and hardly remember it in a few months...believe it or not. Hugs!!

On my day second day, we removed the iv for pain meds, and they gave me a sleeping pill. I am pretty sure it was just a valium. And I took something at night for the pain. But I slept fine. I do agree with everyone about the recliner, but I never used mine. Never had an issue with it. I do take Melatonin dissolvable. Which help me go nighty night. But you might check with you doctor.
