Default Just a newbie saying HI!

    Hi everyone!
Just had my sleeve surgery done on 3/30/15, so I am just 7 days post op! I am on the full liquid phase of the post op diet. whew... I feel like a beached waterlogged whale and my incisions are starting to get ichy! My fluids seem to collide with the full liquid meals although im trying to keep these separate.I realize my new tummy should hold only about 3-5 ounces, but i seem able to consume a lot of fluids. is this common?

Welcome to the site. Congratulations of your surgery. Keep up the good work. Getting fluids in is hard for many right after surgery. I think I remember my nurse saying I could take about 3oz. of fluids every 15 minutes or so. and that felt like a lot at the time. and yes in the beginning if felt like I had fluid all the time. It sounds like your doing what your supposed too. as long as you feel okay and it does make you sick. good for you. Keep up the good work. it is an exciting journey.

    Thanks Gina!
Wow, You have done great yourself!
I really worry about stretching out my new stomach. I dont have any problem drinking the fluids on the full liquid diet and rarely feel full. Although, I have noticed a little lump in my throat every now and then.Sure hope my surgeon lopped off enough of my stomach! LOL!!!

It's very common. There's not a lot of bulk in clear fluids and strained soups, so, if you imagine your stomach is like a funnel, liquids don't stay in there long. But, when you move on to pureeds and more solid foods, you will probably notice the difference then. My first try at a scrambled egg was an eye-opener. Chicken, too, when you get there.

I didn't get the hang of "feeling full" until the second week. You are still very swollen. Give yourself time to get to know your new stomach.
