    Default question!!... "im hungry"!!

Hi all, so I'm currently sitting at 2 weeks pre op. Everything is going well, bounced back from surgery great. I'm now on puree diet BUT!!.. I'm not full!!... I eat 1/2 a cup for breakfast, lunch and dinner also 3 snacks. I am following the instructions from dietitian, but am hungry!!... I feel Like I can eat ALOT more, but stop myself after the 1/2 a cup. anyone else had this problem? I dont want to have had the surgery and it not work!!... Tia guys

Hmmm that doesn't sound good. After two weeks I really struggled to get just my fluid in. You must go and see your dietitian asap. My dietitian said I could eat a cup at a time if I was able, but I couldn't even get 1/2 cup down at that stage. Good luck.

Maybe try one "meal" where you eat until you are full and see how much it actually is. It may be less than you think. (of course, if you far exceed a cup or something you may be reinforced in your belief that something is up. Then you'll know to definitely give your surgeon a call and see what they say.)

You are still on puree and it's a lot easier to get mush down than when you start on real food. If I eat yogurt or pudding, or even mashed potatoes I can get in a fairly decent amount. But when you add chunks you get full super quick. Even after something kind of in the middle, like chili with beans, I can't get in more than a few bites.

I do say if you are worried you should talk to your nutritionist. I freaked and panicked so much throughout the first few weeks and my nutritionist was always there to get me lined out.

I will add this: It's amazing how much things will change throughout the first few weeks. Don't think that how things are today means they will be that way tomorrow. I'm 4 weeks out and things are still changing daily.

I am 3 years out, but remember that feeling! I have 3 things for you to consider:
    1. Thirst often masquerades as hunger, are you doing well with hydration?
    2. Acidy tummy feels vaguely like hunger too, are you on a PPI? I took proselec for the first few months post op but don't need it anymore
    3. Liquids aren't very filling. It is kind of a process to get to where the sleeve is really working for you. also, nerves are cut during the surgery so "normal" sensations aren't restored till maybe 6 weeks or more post op. Bottom line, early months you have to eat by the measuring spoon and clock (sounds like you are doing) it isn't till later that you can completely trust your "senses"

Hang in there, it gets better!
