    Default Question for Verterns??

    So I have a question....I am having Surgery on April 6th...I will be going to Arkansas to care for my father and give my sister a break and some time off...my question is...I will be lifting him out of his chair into the wheel chair and into the shower etc...my question is..how were you feeling about 10 weeks out? Did you have enough energy and strength? I am going back to work 2 weeks out and that will be tough too...I work with Autistic teenagers with behaviors so I get kicked and hit a lot.... so worried about how to handle it all..one day at a time I guess...I know everyone is different..but just kind of ball park idea...thanks everyone

    I'm more worried about the kicked and hit part two weeks post-op.

    I think you'll be fine 10 weeks post-op to help your dad.

    Very best to you!

    I was fine 1 week out, 3 weeks out was lifting weights in the gym. 4 weeks out was 100% back to normal.

    Just follow the doc's orders, get your protein, forget about food and drink shakes, get your water in, take your vitamins, and you will be good to go.

    And after 10 weeks, you will likely be 40lbs lighter, meaning your muscles will have been used to lifting 40lbs more every time you get up, walk, etc. Think of it this way, you are packing around a 40lb bag of concrete you will lose 10 weeks out. Think you will find it easier or harder to lift Dad?

    You are okay, stay the course.

    I was back at work 1 week out. Dr told me NO lifting heavier then 20 lbs. Remember you may feel fine, but your stomach was cut in half and sawn back together. LET IT HEAL. 8 weeks out I was in gym. Good luck. You should be ok for Dad, be careful with your job. Try to get help at work, don't risk causing a tear. Good Luck.

    Make sure you get a note from your doctor, you aren't supposed to lift 10 pounds or more, pull or push. Then no twisting or bending (I am thinking in excess) for 6 weeks. But I would definitely protect yourself. Although the pain is manageable/hardly noticeable, I couldn't imagine getting hit in the stomach! Have others take that spot! Make some distance. I am almost 3 weeks out, but still have sensitivity. Good luck!

    I waited until the 3-month mark to get a proper medical. (It kept me insured to dive to 200feet.) By then, I felt no different, strength-wise, than I had already been for many weeks.

    I'd really want to avoid being kicked or hit two weeks after surgery, though.

    Male, age 46, 6'1" tall. Starting BMI was 39 at 2 weeks pre-op. My weight loss chart.
    BMI=35 at 3 weeks post-op! BMI=30 at 15 weeks post-op! BMI=25 at 9 months post-op!
    Reached ultimate goal within 5 months of surgery: free of all prescription medicines! My blog.

    Yea job will be tough but have to work...i can put table between me and student and just be on gaurd...not pick anyone off the floor it is doable...more likely to get hair pulled than kicked in the stomach but it definatly has happened....i was just more focused on taking care of my dad this summer...sounds like i will be good to go 10 weeks out...and i will hopefully will be lighter and in less pain...that will be great...so excited

    You'll need to ask your doctor. I felt great at 10 weeks, but didn't have a job that required lifting, so don't quite know the rules.

    I use to work with autistic children and adults my sister is 33,autistic, and nonverbal. I use to keep her through home supports before I had brain surgery. At times, she could be very physical. She never pulled hair or punched, but when she slapped, omg!! She is as strong as a bear!! I had to stop keeping her because of the danger of her hitting me in the head at the time. She is now on right meds and doing great
    I admire the people that work in this field<3 autistic children are amazing and they need good hearted people to work with. It can take so much. Be careful and take it easy. You may want to take on light duties, I usually work in medical and would need to lift but I'm going to wait. Luckily I'm in between jobs and school since we just recently relocated to Cali. Best thing you can do is listen to your body and do a little less than you think you can at first. Usually when you over do it, you do not feel it until after. Take time and let your body heal<3.
