Default After losing weight, did you look older or younger?

In a conversation with friends lately they had differing opinions on the topic of whether losing weight made you look older or younger. The one said that losing weight definitely made you look younger as the heaviness to the face aged a person. The other said that losing weight made them look older as the lack of fat cause more fine line and wrinkles.

My husband is 13 years older than me and I can't say I want to look much younger than what I do now. Healthier and sexier, yes, but substantially younger, no.

What is your experience? Do you look older or younger after losing weight?

my daughter goes back in age about 1 yr for every 10 lbs she loses. She's always had a youthful face so she is down 40 lbs or 4 yrs which puts her right at 20 or 21. She gets to her goal weight then she'll look like a teenager again.

FlowerGalTX, weight loss affects appearances differently in people. I look the same in age just less FAT in my face. You have a youthful looking face so you just might look younger with your weighhtloss.

Good luck to you. I hope you get the look you are going for. When you are the weight you want to be you can use makeup to make you look whatever age you want to look.

I think it depends on how much weight you loose and your age. If you are below 30 your skin most likely will handle it better than if you are 30-45 where some lines are already forming and they may appear deeper. After 50... you are expected to have lines and they most likely will be a bit deeper than they would have been but not worse than say a smoker or person who tanned a lot.

Never fear- they make stuff that hides it all without a facelift. Fills in all the cracks and gives you smooth skin.

Personally, I'll let you know when I am on the losing end...

My sister-in-law is in her early 30's. She had gastric bypass last year and went from a size 24 to a 6 in ONE YEAR!! Her body (in clothes) looks amazing. I've noticed the nasal-labial folds--the lines going out from your nose toward your mouth--are SO much more pronounced. It ages her. The fat filled up her cheeks, and now they are a bit deflated. Her arms and legs in a bathing suit had very crepe-y skin. She plans to have plastic surgery after she has a baby.

To look as good in a pair of jeans as she does--not to mention the health benefits--is incredible. She has no regrets and wishes she did it sooner. Seeing her progress has been an inspiration to me to do this.

I don't think weight loss will make you look younger; if anything, older. Your BODY can look younger (depending on the shape you're left w/ after weight loss)-excess weight makes women look matronly, IMO, but excess skin can make you look fat even though you're very thin underneath!

With the face I'd worry more about skin sagging than wrinkles, although sagging can make them look worse. Some people get face lifts after massive weight loss b/c of the huge volume loss in their cheeks, which Evie describes. Some people's skin bounces back, and you may be lucky/young enough where that happens, no way to tell until you get there.

Probably not what you want to hear, but there it is

I have quite a few family members and friends that have had the surgery. For some that lost a great deal of weight I feel they initially looked a bit older but that as their body got used to the new weight they looked younger (I am speaking of those that were 40+ when they had it). I think it took a few months for the transition to take place. Two of them went from over eating to over drinking alcohol and in that case they both look really older, and tired.
God gave us people to love and things to use, not things to love and people to use.

i think that the weight loss has made me look a little younger, not drastic but a bit. My neck, face, arms legs, and back. but thats ok cause I will be 60 very soon! so if I get to look younger thats fine by me!!! they have a new process I watched on Dr.Oz its where they use ultrasounds on the face, neck area, and it helps to tighten the skin. no surgery needed! I am looking into this, but so far its a bit expensive. so Ill wait. when I lay down I look fine!!! so at least I'll look good in my casket!! lol

I am 10 years younger than my husband and I LOOK 10 years younger than he does. He smokes and is constantly in the sun---he looks his age. I am not sure what I will look like when I am healthier---guess I am of an age that I don't care anymore (55). BUT if I have the bat wings and stomach skin that hangs down I will have surgery to get that removed. For my face---only time will tell. I just want to feel good - the weight loss is a bonus.

I think it depends on if you lose slowly enough for your skin to catch up, age at weight loss, how much collagen you have genetically and honestly, if one loses too much for their frame. There's a phlebotomist at a nearby hosp who had RNY, went from size 30 to 4 in one year. Honestly, she needs to gain enough to just fill in her face a bit, she looks about 10 yrs older than she did. I remember my mother losing weight at one point, down to about 140 and even her friends said she looked sick and needed to gain a little. She eventually put 15 lbs back on and looked much healthier. I think it's an individual thing, and taking pics of oneself on the journey will help a lot.
Wendy, your face looks young and slim already :-)

Everyone tells me I look younger. I am 47 and have lost 75 pounds. I've spent my whole life in the sun but don't smoke/drink. I only started to moisturize my face a few months ago, getting ready for the wrinkles. They haven't appeared!

Lifestyle lifts actually have had many problems associated with them-make sure to do your research. It's better to go for a mini lift or a full lift than LL.
