I think weight can age one, especially women, where they can look matronly. When I'm at this size, which is extreme for me, I pretty much just wear my version of fat lady dresses which are loose T shirt dresses and cardigans, bike shorts to prevent chafing in the warmer months, leggings in the cold. When I'm smaller I can wear jeans and other cuter clothes that make me look younger, I think. Notice I said I think You'd really have to ask a young person whether I looked old, everyone else, I've noticed, skews age w/ time.

As for the face I had a very small neck hanging thing last time I was at goal, but the good news is I'm going for reconstruction fairly soon after I get there this time so that will cancel it out.

I think w/ a lot of other things you won't know until you get there.

What can they do with the neck thing? My dad has one and I have a lot of fat under my chin. When I lose it, I don't want the skin hanging.

Facelift, necklift, depending on how much you need it. I only had a little so I think a good f/l will take care of it. Some people lipo the area but IMO that just makes the skin more saggy as it takes out the fat that was holding it up. Also more wrinkly, ugh.

My dad was 48 and lost 150 pounds on a low carb diet and has kept it off for ten years and all his skin tightened back up from sun, working out, and using johnsons baby lotion nightly.

Careful of Lifestyle Lifts; they've been sued by a number of people who have been damaged/disfigured permanently and others who allege that at the very least they do not do what they advertise. You're better off consulting w/ a board certified plastic surgeon who can deliver safe, realistic and lasting results.

Some one said that after 50 you have to choose between face or figure, i think it was Mae West. well I have chosen figure at the age of 61 as my face will have to make do with what ever happens to it as I want to grow as old as I can healthy!

there was a show on dr. oz about tighning the neck area, no surgery, they use a lazer. I wrote down the info but can remember the name and don't know the price. but one could go back and look at his posts on line. they also showed another one where a womens face grew longer as we age, and they inject a liquid in the cheek area and around the mouth and boy did it make a big difference! I wish I could get it.

Yankeegirl, you CAN have it, it's not a big deal, he was probably talking about fillers-Juvederm and Restalyn, look them up online and ask your dermatologist for a recommendation if s/he doesn't do them.

Cloudlady, here's the legal status of the Lifestyle Lift cases:

Cowgirl, I think your dad owes his tight skin to his genetics and how much he had to lose, how fast he lost it, etc. and how long he's maintained. It really is the luck of the draw. Otherwise Johnson's baby lotion would be out of stock in every store and post bariatric reconstructive surgery wouldn't be one of the hottest and fastest growing specialities in the cosmetic surgery field today. The only way you'll know where you land in the genetic mix is after you've lost your weight.

At 45 pounds lost, I'm noticing some fine lines around my dimples and my "think crease" between my eyebrows is getting more pronounced.

I can't say I'm thrilled about this but plan to look into some treatments for this.

I clean my skin with witch hazel (supposedly tightens / reduces puffyness under eyes) and then use St. Ives Collagen / Elastic Moisturizer. I just started doing this regimen day and night a week ago and will let you all know how it goes and also considering adding some Mychelle anti-aging serums.

Although I want to do this w/out all of the help with dermatologists or even a plastic surgeon (botox), I have a feeling I might need to go that route if things don't improve and the lines get more pronounced.

Has anyone used FROWNIES and if so, what did you think?

Hi, today I googled 'exercises to firm sagging necks' and found a website called Facial Exercises | Facial Exercises by Carolyn's Facial Fitness. Carolyn is now 65 years old, I believe, she lost about 50lbs (from memory) when she was my age, 51. She looks absolutely amazing!!! That I should get to look like her! She has a DVD that shows you how to do these exercises, but also has examples on the website. I have ordered a pack for myself. My fiance took some photos of me last night in a new dress and OMG! I do think that you look better some days than others, and have been told that since losing some weight I look about 10 years younger, but not last night, folks! He took one lot of pics of me coming down the stairs, and with that looking downward, there was just so much flop around the neck, there was nothing young looking about that at all.
Carolyn also has what she calls a brushing technique to help tone the chin and jaw and I tried that today on my floppy arms, my tum and legs. We are getting married in May, and I don't want to replace fat photos with floppy ones! On the up side, he then took some photos of me down the stairs looking upward, they were much better I must say! I have lost on average about 3 dress sizes and 23kg so far, so my skin might be wondering what's going on in the world. Weight loss has slowed up some at the moment, it's 4 months since the op. Wondering if anyone else has experienced a "go slow" and whether or not progress starts up again?
The floppy arms are by no means youthful looking, especially as the flop extends down past the elbows!
Apart from the fact that financially surgery is not an option (unless of course I win the lottery or some such), I read in a magazine about a girl who had lost alot of weight and had the excess skin removed. However, the skin had not finished going back into shape and she ended up with the operation cuts bursting open as the skin retracted! In the same article I seem to remember them saying that the skin can take up to a year to get its act together and catch up. Something to keep in mind.
    Reason: Forgot to mention...

I am 55 years old, and people tell me I look younger. When the weight was coming off quickly the first few months, I was concerned that my neck was looking crepe-y. Well, there is still a little bit of that, but it's really not so bad anymore. I think the skin has started to tighten up a bit. However, I did go visit my dermatologist last month to get his opinion on things. My biggest concern right now is my upper eyelids, and only surgery can help those, which I cannot afford. But we also talked about Botox for the forehead and between the eyebrows (not going to do it because my lines aren't too terrible), and about Radiesse for augmenting the cheeks and chinline (still considering that, because my face has lost a LOT of weight and I have to use makeup to give myself cheeks anymore...basically, I have more than cheekbones these days. I feel like I have sunken cheeks, but I am my own worst critic.) But the dematologist did recommend, for regular thin lines and wrinkles, Roc Deep Wrinkle Night-time creme, and for the daytime, Neutrogena Healthy Defense, SPF 30). He said there are definitely more expensive products you can buy, but there is nothing that works any better than the Roc. So I'm going to try it for a couple of months and then decide if I want to go for the Radiesse before my high school reunion in late summer this year. Basically, I am just blessed with good genes, I think. But I am all in favor of slowing down the tracks of time, if possible. The eyelid surgery will have to wait...again, I am my own worst critic.

Oh, and I should add, the Radiesse is supposed to last for 12-15 months...so that is definitely a bonus! (Can anyone tell that I'm seriously considering this?)
    Diane
