Default Too weak to hold myself up

This surgery coupled with diverticulitis has been pure hell for me. I've mentioned before that I spent the first 5 days of the new year in the hospital (2 in icu). I also had two shorter visits for continued dehydration and ketonuria. As if that wasn't enough, on January 30th I had an appointment with a new doctor. He took one look at me, said "Holy shit!", and promptly admitted me back into the hospital for another 5 day stay. I've had countless blood tests, barium swallow study that then took 3 days of intense laxatives (suppositories, enemas, and mag citrate) to remove from my system, multiple CTs, full anesthesia for a colonoscopy and EGD done simultaneously, and who knows what else. I've been diagnosed with diverticulitis, esophagitis, gastritis, dehydration, ketonuria, lazy colon, severe reflux, and those are just the things I remeber. Before being discharged, my GI, general surgeon, and bariatric surgeon all came to the conclusion that I am one of the few that just have had an awful reaction to this surgery. No one could have known beforehand that I would have this sort of reaction to the surgery. I don't blame anyone, but I damn sure know that if I could go back and do it all over that I wouldn't in a million years. What a total nightmare this has been! I can't eat at all as it comes right back up. I have done better with keeping my fluids down. I managed to keep 16 oz of water in yesterday. Score one for me! I have lost all of my muscle. To add insult to injury, when I tried to get out of bed to go pee, my muscles wouldn't hold me. Now I have a nice big bruised goose egg on my leg to remind me just how pitiful I have become.
I truly am thrilled for all of you that are having amazing success with your surgery, and am immensely jealous that I am not one of the ones that was able to sail through it without regret. Curses to my body for being such an ass to me. 20150204_202239.jpg

What a horror show! I am so, so sorry.

What is the long term prognosis? Can the doctors stretch out your stomach or something like that? Or give you a temporary colostomy and IV nutrients?

Right now I'm on a load of prescriptions. I will be having surgery to remove the portion of my colon that is full of diverticulitis, but surgeon is waiting for me to not be so sick. Stomach stretching has been mentioned, but not to that point just yet. They are really hoping some of these medications will ease some of my troubles. For now I am taking Carafate, Protonix, Cipro, Flagyl, Phenergan suppositories, Zofran by mouth, Tramadol, B12, multivitamin, and I think that may be all unless I'm forgetting something.
I haven't thrown up today so far, so I am so very very hopeful that a positive change is taking place.
I know my posts are really negative, and I apologize for being such a Debbie Downer. Just so tired of being so sick. Can't wait for the day when I can post that I'm that I feel fantastic. Glad I at least have a place to vent my frustrations and let my sadness out without having to heap it all on my family all the time.
On a positive note, I'm alive. I'M ALIVE!!! And I am grateful.

It's easy to listen. Venting is part of the healing process. Let it out.

I agree. Say what you need to... Much healthier than holding it in.

That's a boat load of meds, I don't know but crossing my fingers your stomach will be a tich less miserable once you are able to be off the cipro & flagyl.

I hope you start to improve. I know it's easy for me to say, but you are still early in this. Don't write this whole thing off as a failure yet, even though it has been a nightmare so far.

You are not being a downer, you are being honest about your experience. At some level we all know this can happen, but we imagine it won't be us. I am really sorry you are having such a hard time and I hope they have you going in the healthy direction.

Thanks you guys! I don't want to jinx myself, but today has been so much better with no vomiting and a little less nausea. Long way to go before I feel human again, but it's a start. I even ate 3 crackers, and kept them down!! I went outside today, too. Miracles...I like them

Praying for a speedy full recovery for you. You've made me ashamed of being tired of being sore when I'm not three weeks out yet. Clearly, if that's my worst complaint I'm pretty lucky. Hope you're all better soon.
