Default Reaching Goal and approved for skin surgery

So here I am 13 months after my sleeve, I have reached my goal weight and I got a call from my insurance letting me know that they have approved me for a panniectomy (I am not sure the exact spelling). I have to go see my dr. every 6 weeks for the next few months, and they would like me to lose another 10-15 lbs, but they are going to cover it fully! I am so happy that I went on this journey, I feel so good about myself. I am trying exercise daily, and I wish I had money to buy new clothes, but things are pretty great overall. I really appreciate this forum, I come on here several times a week and it is always helpful to read everyone's stories.

Oh, that is GREAT!! I'm so happy when I hear that some insurance will cover skin removal. It just makes sense for long term health and weight maintenance!

That's wonderful! Is there any specific reasons why some skin surgeries are covered and some are not?

I don't know why they approve it for some and not all. In my phone call they stated that they were going to approve it because I had an ongoing fungal infection, however they would want pictures taken at the dr's office to show the skin problems.

Be honest, readers. You thought for a second, "I'd be willing to develop a fungal infection for insurance-covered surgery..."

I asked my surgeon about this. He said as long as there is documented medical conditions (yeast, fungal ect.) most insurances will cover skin removal.

When I spoke to the insurance company, she said that they approved it because they had documentation of my weight loss, and they had confirmation from 2 doctors (My surgeon and PCP) that I had gotten a fungal infection, so that is why they would cover it. I am thrilled, I can't wait to get rid of my "apron".

I found out the same info about Medicare. I have had yeast infections for many years now where my body does not get air. The apron, & under the breasts. also the crease on top of my thighs. I hope this isn't TMI, LOL

Congratulations, you've worked hard and you deserve it. My Dr. said that my insurance would cover the same procedure. I wonder if I paid the difference if I could get a full tummy tuck? I wonder if it would work for a breast reduction/uplift? As I lose weight, I am having back pain from carrying this things around.
