    Default my 600 pound life

I'm just now watching the new season of my 600 lb. life, Amber's story, and hearing her talk about always being hungry and never feeling full and her worries that she'll "fail" her weight loss surgery, which all sounds so familiar. One of the reasons I decided to get sleeved was seeing the people on this program and realizing how easily I could become one of them--one more fall, a blown out knee or back, and I would be another bedridden food addict.

This show is brutal to watch, some might say exploitative, but I like that it shows the horrors of obesity and I like that the surgeon is willing to take the risk to do high bmi patients. Can't wait to see how Amber does!

I have never heard of the show. I think it would be a hard one to watch for me personally. I hope there is a happy ending.
I noticed you just had your procedure in Dec.
Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep up the good work!
It's a Happy New Year for you.

Ms. Jupiter, congrats on your weight loss too!

This show is a series on cable, TLC, and follows six high bmi people who have had wls for a year. The original show followed six people for EIGHT years. It's a good watch.

I didn't see ambers story yet but I like to watch that show also. I also feel like one wrong move and that could have been me also. I finally don't feel trapped in my own body anymore. Before I had my surgery I would watch to see the inspirational stories...but never believed I could transform my life. But I'm doing it. One day at a time. Since I am more active now and feeling better I've started re-examining why I got to 388 lbs. I know the how but I'm still mulling through the why. Like I mentioned on the 30th of January I haven't been this lite in 20 years. I consciously have to pull myself to the positve side of this journey because my brain automatically goes to the negative. Anyway sorry, I'll think of you, Karen Jean when I see the show next.

Julie, I think the why is probably a complicated mess of biological, psychological, and sociological factors. The sleeve helps fix the biological; it's up to us to break off our romantic relationships with Taco Bell, go to the gym instead of sitting in front of the tube, and see a shrink to get head shrunk. I was very happy to see Dr. N send Amber to therapy--it made a huge difference for her, helped her stop bullying herself, and by the end of the year she'd lost 250 pounds.

I've been very discouraged lately. Because of a staph infection in two incisions, I have had trouble healing, and I'm now on week 10 of no Still's Disease meds other than a low dose prednisone. My joints are so painful I can barely walk, shower, dress myself, much less do household chores or go out in the world in snow and ice on crutches. I can increase the prednisone, but that's what put the last 150 pounds on, or I can just suck it up. I think the morbidly obese reach a point, a critical juncture, where everything rapidly starts to fail, and I've been hovering there for a year. I keep reminding myself that I stopped the progression by getting sleeved, but I've lost over 55 pounds and I feel WORSE, not better.

At one of Amber's lowest moments, her wheelchair broke in the airport when she was trying to fly to Texas to see the surgeon. Her father wound up pushing her through the airport on a big luggage cart/pallet as people around her snapped photos. Her legs were so swollen they must have weighed 150 pounds each. How do you get up every day and push through the pain and fight for a new life? And forgive yourself for f*cking up this one by eating yourself almost to death?

I know I have to dig deep to get through these last hurdles in my recovery. Tomorrow is hopefully my last visit to the wound center, and I hope to leave there with permission to swim again, the only exercise my joints will tolerate right now. That clearance will mean I get to take Still's meds again and will start feeling better in a tew weeks.

Anyway, that's my late night insomnia rambling.

KarenJean, you got this and we're here to help you. I need a dose of you and JoePoppa every day to keep a smile on my face. If you've read my posts, I have always maintained that the mental part is harder than the physical part. You are a strong, brave person. We all are, or we wouldn't have had the courage to change. We got this!

    Greenmomma, thank you! You're awesome.

I hope your neck is feeling better--any news?
I sort of suspected it was related to all that dating you've been doing and suggest switching to an upholstered headboard.

I just watched this on demand. I don't care what hurdles are ahead of me it will never be as hard as that young woman has it. She is incredibly self aware and comitted to change. I'm sure she'll be fine. Not sure that Rowdy is an asset though.

It's a tough topic to portray. The producers could edit to be less sensationalist, but some sideshow aspect may be inextractable from our culture. In the end, some enlightenment will be gained by sensitive viewers.

    KarenJean,
I always look for your posts on this forum! I was sad to hear that you're feeling worse rather than better at this time. But you have a good attitude, you are a smart person, and I hope you'll feel better very soon. I, too, would like very much to SWIM!! I haven't had the sleeve surgery yet - but I have finished and sent in all my paper work. Now I'm waiting to hear something about the next "hoop to jump" ! I also watch 'My 600 pound Life" every week since I made up my mind to go forward with surgery. But for the grace of God, that could be ME!! I'm so thankful for options such as this surgery. I pray it all goes well. Take good care of yourself... LaNae
