    Default Weight Gain

    Hello Everyone,
So, I am in a bad head space right now. Forgive me now while I tell you how embarrassed I am that I have gained 31lbs. I started the 5 day pouch test today in hopes of getting that tightness back - though I still have my restriction.

I am looking for ANYONE to provide some suggestions of how I can get back on track and lose the 31 I've gained and at least 20 more.

I am so desperate right now - I want to be able to fit into my cute clothes this spring.

    Thanks!

Let me share what I've learned about myself. It's not so much eating too much at one time (restriction helps with this) as constant grazing (cookies, chips, crackers, ice cream) I've had to be a drill sergeant and just say NO to grazing. I became gluten free not because its any less calories than the substitutes but it would make me say no to bread, cookies, crackers chips unless they said "gluten free" on the bag. This made going to a party or passing by the office snack table easier to say no. I also have a blackboard at home with an involved "to do" list to keep me busy. I also make meals ahead to freeze and thaw. That way I'm not tempted to just again graze on crap. I also take a daily epsom salt bath before bedtime to signal to my brain that it's the end of the day and no more eating. It's a constant struggle for me but SO worth it.

    Goestogym,
Thank you for the reply. You are absolutely correct - I graze all the time when I am feeling hungry. It doesn't help that there is someone always bringing "stuff" into the office. I have to do this and I am just going to say NO - even when hanging out with my girlfriends. We are social drinkers and I do it a lot.

    Exhale............I can do this.

I write out what I am going to eat the day before. I use it like a schedule. It helps me tremendously to know what I am going to eat because If I don't know what I will eat as planned I'll just grab whatever. You just have to find what works for you. For me, planning is awesome. I also schedule what times I will eat and if I am hungry in between my meals or snacks that is the time I take advantage to drink as much water as I can before I eat again since I know that after I eat I won't be drinking again for another two hours. Also, work on what is going on in your head and in your heart. Journal, get some counseling, find a support group, etc. We had surgery on our stomachs, not our brains, but we do need to deal with the head mess that got us overweight in the first place. Good luck to you, and let us know how you are doing.

    Hi Carla:
I feel your pain. In the past few months I have gained 50 lbs and I'm really afraid. I don't feel the restriction as much as I used to, but found myself grazing on chips, ice cream, etc. It's painfully embarrassing as people really give me the once over. Maybe we can help eachother. Let me hear from you. Hugs, Roberta

I feel your pain, I recently relocated to another country and the stress and adjustments to eating here have had me all over the place. When I first moved here I found that the foods in the store were so different, it was hard for me to read and understand what I was buying so I allowed myself to eat out more, intake more crap food etc etc. Being a vet from surgery I get so frustrated at times because I feel like I know what all to do but at times I just don't do it. I find that what helps me is to start back with the basics, start using my food dairy app, like my fitness pal or whatever, just something that will keep me informed on what I am eating. Accountability is such a tedious process, but I find it can be a real eye opener on how to get back on track.

Here is a video I saw a few weeks back that my help some of you all out, and I also wrote some posts on tips and tricks I used in the past to help me stay on track. I will search for them and post them here. I hope this helps you out, just know you are not alone on this one, and that you can get yourself back on track. Its frustrating at times, but YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Your welcome dear, I am still combing through my old posts to see if I can find the ones where I wrote about things you can do to help. I will post the links when I find them or find some time to sit down and rewrite it all.

Sorry it took so long for me to track down the post that I was looking for, I didn't realize how long ago I had written some of these things. There are others out there but here is one that points out a few things I did to try and get myself back on track when I would see a gain. I hope this info helps you all out some and if you have any question feel free to ask. If I find the others I will link them below. Hi Carla,
It has been six days since you've posted this thread. I was curious to know whether or not the 5 day pouch test helped you mentally reset your eating habit? I was also curious to know what type of protein shakes you used during the first two days? Personally, I'm not a big fan of pureed foods, I even have trouble masticating food properly, and i know that is a big part of post op life... and was wondering if there is someone out there with a similar disadvantage. So furthermore i was also curious to know what type of soft proteins you incorporated during your FDPT.I might have done lots of fruits high in fiber and protein such as apricots., raisins, prunes and dates, but that's just me. Well I encourage you to be the best you can be and get to your goal weight soon.

I'll go with what you said. Drinking more water is the best way. Its healthy and can't make you hungry.
