Hello from Australia - Is Gastric Sleeve ok after lap-band surgery ?

I have just found this forum and spent the last hour having a look and I feel enthusiastic. I had lap-band surgery about 20 years ago. I was 135 kg and lost about 30 kg. I still hover around 110 kg and just cannot lose weight and keep it off.

Has anyone had lap-band surgery and then the sleeve done ? Do the same surgeons do the operation ? I haven't contacted any surgeon re this yet just looking for information and would be interested in knowing of any good surgeons in Melbourne. I had bariatric surgery done by Prof. O'Brien. I can eat way too much and as a result I do. I have issues with reflux occasionally. If anyone has had lap-band and then the sleeving, is this more successful ? Thanks in advance.

i had a friend who had the band and had it removed because of erosion to her eshophagus and she got the sleeve done all in the same day and she did real well with it

I haven't had this done myself but know that it is reasonably common. I know that the surgeon that I went to does this frequently with far greater success (so he says!). My friend went from a band to a sleeve with great success - that feeling of hunger that never went with her band disappeared as the amount of hormone that the stomach can secrete decreases with stomach size.

I had band and then the sleeve. I love the sleeve SO MUCH MORE. I HATED my band. I only lost 30lbs in 2 years with the band, and have lost 65lbs since April with my sleeve. Good luck!

Hi Tiff, did you have your band removed at the same time or did you need to have it removed prior to having the sleeve. I have heard one Surgeon who has said that you need several months in between and also read somewhere that it can be done on the same day. I have been quite disappointed in my band so really looking forward to having it gone and having the sleeve done. I must admit that I am slightly scared that if the band hasn't worked then maybe it is me and the sleeve won't.
