Hello everyone!! I am a new sleever, started off my new year in the Hospital. I had the gastric sleeve surgery Dec 30, 2014.
Originally I was told the sleeve would be done Tuesday and I would go home Wednesday. When I woke up in that recovery room I felt horrible! My back hurt, my chest hurt (from the gas) and my stomach.....hard to explain, it hurt for sure and I had to press a pillow up against my stomach every time I moved because it felt slightly better that way.
Fast forward to that night- still same pain but as soon as I arrived in my room I vomited. Then ofcoarse the pain was worse. The nurse in the recovery room was only giving me .5mg of the pain med instead of the ordered 3mg. The nurse upstairs gave me zofran (for nausea) and the full dose of pain medicine. The pain was a little better so I choose then to start walking. It hurt so bad but at the same time it felt good to get out of bed. After walking I sat up and watched TV then went to bed. I was woken later for vitals. At that time I vomited and continued to do so 3 more times over night. The next morning I went for the test to see if their was a leak, I drank the solution and just as the doctor said all looked good I vomited. Horrible. I was afraid I would rip my stomach open but apparently I was the only one worried about that. Ofcoarse I didn't go home. I held down a little water here and there. That night at two am I woke up and my mouth was so dry, I took a tiny sip of water- 5cc's- and threw up! So at that time I didn't have the pain med in 6 hours, due every three. So I called the nurse and a different nurse brought in the medicine, only this time it was 30cc's to drink, not to go in my IV. I told her I just threw up 5ccs- it's would take a while to get this down. She just stood there looking at me and said 'I can't leave it bed side I'll have to wait for you to take it." Super. So I take it slowly and as soon as she walked out it all came back up. More pain but they can't give me anything more- even tho they see I threw it all up. Anyway- That was the last time I threw up. I was given a shot for nausea and Thursday (Happy New Years!) I kept all liquids down. I still had to stay to see of I could go all night without getting sick. I made it and by Friday I was able to go home. I live 30min from the hospital and ofcoarse the roads are bumpy. Have someone bring a pillow for your tummy for the ride home!! The slight pressure helped on bumps. My friend had his sleeve the same morning as me and he went home the next day as planned- no vomiting, no problems. I believe I had a bad reaction to the Anastasia. I wish the best to everyone!! I'd do it all again, it is worth it!! Lost 20lbs already!!!
