    Default These stalls really suck!

Man these stalls are killing me! I'm only 8 1\2 weeks in and I had a stall from week 3 to 5 1\2 where I gained 5 pounds and lost it again during that time. I am in another stall where I've gained 5 pounds. Haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks and am hoping it will pick up again soon. I'm going on a cruise in 3 1\2 weeks and want to look my best. I've stopped stepping on the scale every day so hopefully that will help too. Anyone else have stalls so close together where they gained weight?

Some people lose weight relatively consistently from week to week. Some people "stair step" - they lose one week, stay the same the next, lose the next etc. Some women only lose weight during certain weeks of their cycle, and gain water weight the others. Based on your description of the timing you could be one of those.

The bottom line is that after 6 months, it doesnt matter which type of person you are above, the average is about the same loss. People who lose weight consistently might lose 2 pounds a week so 8 pounds in a month. The stair stepper might lose 3, then 0, then 4 then 0 for 7 pounds in a month. The cycle woman might lose 4, then lose 2, then gain 2 then lose 3 - for 7 pounds in a month.

Plot your data for a few months and look at the trend. It doesnt help you so much as at least reassure you that your body is responding. Take a monthly view instead - if you lose 5 pounds a month, you will have lost 60 pounds in a year. It doesnt matter what week or weeks of that month you lose them. And anything over that is just a bonus.

Yes it happens...I just got throught with a stall for 3 weeks and I'm only 9wks post op. And yes the scale went in the wrong direction...you have to keep in mind that your body has gone through a trauma just a short while ago and can't take in what it's supposed to anymore so it's holding onto what you're giving it...if you feed it...you will loose it but make sure you're feeding it protein protein protein
    Good luck
keep dreaming the dream and living the life!!!

    TAPE YOUR BUTT!!

Been said a bunch around here.... By that I mean put a tape measure on your calf, thigh, buttocks, waistline, bust line, and right arm. RECORD IT.

    Watch it weekly.

You can not tell anything from the scale alone. Are you gaining muscle? Fat? What are you losing? Are you losing 12 lbs of fat, and gaining 2 lbs of muscle? Get a hand held body fat measure thingie off amazon, they are not great, but will give you a constant baseline. Measure that each week.

Over and again I see the tape measure dropping like a brick, when scale may not move that much. If you see your body lose 2, 4, or 5 inches in a week, you know you are losing a lot of fat. But you might be holding water. That is okay, you will flush out the water in a few days.

Now to the scale, 2lbs a week that is sustainable will lead to amazing results. Sure, it might take a year to lose 100 lbs, but it took my 47 years to get an ass this big, 50 weeks to get back to a healthy weight is nothing. You know, if it took 2 years, with steady progress, so what? Gonna do something for 2 years.... why not drop a pant size every month or two (will make affording all them new clothes easier).

You are okay, so am I, we will be alright
