    Default Coffee and Soda

So I have started to reduce my coffee intake mainly because i drink it with creamer and soda even though its coke zero and has no sugar...my problem is I am one of those caffeine addicted fools that gets migraines if I don't have my morning coffee, I have tried black but I just cant stomach it. I dont want to HAVE to give it up altogether to be honest - it is my one vice..as for the soda, I crave carbonation at the oddest hours, mostly in the middle of the night, so I have switched out the soda for a large bottle of water next to the bed and I know its a mind over matter thing. But coffee ppl!!!....really not the coffee!!!

Here's what I did. It might (?) help you.

Before surgery, I gradually (over a month, I think) reduced my coffee until I was drinking only half a cup a day. I prepared it with half a cup of hot skim milk. So it was a homemade skinny latte. I just loved it.

It's what I still drink -- after my doc said ten days post-op that I could have a cup of coffee a day. (I jumped up and hugged him.)

P.S. And re the diet soda ... yeah, you're just gonna have to cold turkey that.

Do sugar free creamer...thats what I do. I add enough to get the flavor and thats it. My boyfriend give me shit for it though because he says it still tastes like coffee but its better than loading it with a whole bunch of sugared up creamer.

Loved coffee! I say "loved" because I gave it up a week ago Monday. Coffee without creamer isn't happening so I knew I had to give it up. The headaches last week were awful and add to that I started the 3 week pre-op diet on Wednesday. It was quite a week but it's over now.

The headaches were gone by Friday. I should have eased into it but I ran out of creamer on Sunday and decided the time was right. I don't have any less energy than I did when I drank coffee. The coffee didn't perk me up. I don't miss it now so I figure once I'm free to drink it again I won't.

Before surgery I gradually gave up diet coke and switched to decaf coffee. Half calf at first and cut back on the diet soda replacing with LaCriox, then eventually giving up the LaCroix as the bubbles would be banned after. It took me 6 months to be completely free from the addiction without headaches! Post op, I'll allow myself 1-2 kcups of coffee in the morning and really no other caffeine the rest of the day. I don't touch soda, diet or otherwise as it makes me really uncomfortable now. I drink mostly plain water but if I want a "treat" drink I'll go for a PowerAide Zero or G2. I don't get enough hydration as it is and the electrolytes and sodium help regulate my now low blood pressure anyway. The only time I miss soda is the now rare event when I'm looking for a low calorie mixer for Captain Morgan!

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

I was also a Coke Zero fanatic, so I get it! I miss it this very day, almost 10 months post-op. I had a taste (the most miniscule taste, mind you...) of my boyfriend's beer, this weekend, because I also miss a cold beer. I know very few folks who can handle carbonation after surgery, and guess what? I'm not one of em. I instantly belched...my body wasn't having any of it! So. I shall continue on my no carbonation quest. It's not that bad, promise. I miss it, but no longer CRAVE it. Good luck on your upcoming procedure!

P.S. As for coffee? I do it, and do it well. Cream and all.

I'm a year out this week, I gave up all fizzy drinks on 6th December 2013, I was a fizzy addict but not touched it since and won't ever again. I said to myself if someone said to you ' give up fizzy and I'll take your weight away ' what would I say ? ....... Hell yeah ! So that's how I got my head in the right space to give it up, I'm too scared of ruining this new tool so I've convinced myself it's the thing that will break it ! ... Works for me Good Luck......exciting times xxxx

I drink two cups of regular coffee each day with a little low fat milk and artificial sweetener. On weekends that becomes two or three cups.
I still drink a can of diet soda each day, although I try to buy caffeine free.

I know that caffeine beverages are not the best choice for a liquid, in fact they are a little self defeating, but I have to get that java monkey off my back in the morning, so the regular coffee is staying.

As far as carbonated beverages go, they won't stretch your sleeve.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but they can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.
