Default Hair Loss Data Collection ... Doing Science at Home

    It's begun!

Recently I've noticed a little more hair loss, so last week I collected my hair from the shower drain and my hair brush. (BTW, my hair is shoulder-length and thick, so I have a lot to lose.)

I realize this post may belong in the category of Too Much Information.

I don't believe it is too much information Ann. Mine is still coming out and I had THICK hair. Not so much anymore. The good news is that it is coming back in again. Here is a picture of the regrowth. ALL of it that is sticking up is new. There is also shorter hair (1-2 inches) that is new. And it is like this all over my whole head. I was losing by the handful, like you. It has slowed down now, but I am still losing.Attachment 23002

The body store the protein in your hair. If the protein decreased in your body you will have hair loss. You need 60-80 g of protein\day

That is a good point EXCEPT I only went a little over ONE WEEK not getting 60-80 g of protein per day. I was on target every single day after that. I still had massive hair loss AND I have been taking Biotin daily since before surgery. Clearly, there is more to the hair-loss story than just protein consumption.

This has been the toughest part for me. My hair is sooooooo thinned out. I keep it cut short hoping it makes it have a fuller look. I can't wait until I can have a full head of heathy hair. I am at the point I want to buy a wig. :d

Search the forums or the web for telogen effluvium. Here's one link. Effluviums (Telogen and More): Causes, Treatments, and More

    Thanks Ann.

It isn't TMI (unless that hair was NOT from your head!)

PS. I hope that was your index finger!

LOL! Yes, that's my index finger and head hair.

MB, thanks for that photo of your new hair. Looks like I have a new hairstyle in my near future.

Ann my experience is you just have to ride it out. My hair fell out longer than most. I was on clear liquids for one week. Then began protein shakes day 7. Since that day I got between 75 and 100 grams of protein daily that first year. (i quit protein shakes this fall when my last batch of shake powder was used up and I don't really count the way I used to) I was very faithful with my vitamins and added the biotin as recommended. My hair still fell out too. For me the fall out slowed about 10 months out. My hair is definitely getting thicker, but i don't think it will ever reach its pre op thickness. I cut mine in a chin length bob and quit coloring it that first year. Then about the first year mark I resumed color and have been gradually growing it back out. I dont know that cutting it made it fall out less, but for me short hair all over the house was less distressing than the long hair all over the place! Hang in there!!! And get the drano ready!

MLB I have found that aveda makes this leave in conditioner stuff in a light blue tube called smooth infusions. Dont get the green tube. It has been the only thing I have found that makes that flyaway new growth lay down. You might try it if the new growth bothers you as much as mine did me. You may have already found a different solution. If so I would love to know. Thanks for sharing that pic. I think it will relieve many folks.

I agree with Reading Mom. Just something we have to live with. I've taken my proteun and biotin religiously and my hair has still thinned. I had thick hair so I too still have a lot to work with. Feel sorry for those that already had thin hair.

Not looking forward to this part, in fact it kinda creeps me out. I have LOTS of hair, so not too worried about losing some. But I have a weird aversion to hair strands, just the thought of it (and your picture) make me gag. I can't clean my brush or the drain (my husband does both) I know, I know...... Its my one really quirky thing.

Hello, my name is Char and I'm a weirdo.

She thought she could......so she did!

I used to go to good dermatologist as I had hair loss before the surgery, He said I have to take zinc supplement and use a kind of ampoule treatment for the hair. He also said I have to be away from head and shoulders shampoo as they use sort of bad chemicals. Yes as you said it is not only the protein.
