Default Hi From Mary in Australia

    Hi Everyone

just joined this site as need support and love to give support...as i am 3 years post op I am in the danger zone of regaining weight ...which i have recently...a bit of stress eating from work problems and personal problems..

Need to get back on track...to be honest I never did any exercise throughout my 3 year journey...but now find I really need to...any suggestions?

The only exercise i get is delivering babies on the floor in the bath up side down...what ever position the mum chooses...not really exercise..I have one daughter 26 years old ...she was born at home as I employed a midwife...any way she doesn't like me at present..

any encouragement welcome..a bit of low self esteem lately..

    Mary

    Mary,

Just a few days before New Year's seems like a great time to identify some new health and fitness goals and habits you want to develop in the coming year. I'm going through that process right now -- re cardio, strength-building, flexibility, daily living skills, and recreation.

For me, exercise means moving more than I have moved before. Since last May I've been walking outside and on a home treadmill. I bought a Fitbit mid-2014, and it really encourages me to get up and move my ass.

In early November I started (again) doing water aquarobics (LOVE IT!) 3 times a week with other "old people."

Earlier this month I bought some exercise bands and am doing resistance work with arms and legs.

Just this week I started (again) doing yoga at home. Nothing fancy and nothing long, but am just getting started again.

I'm also (again) doing morning meditation to lengthen and deepen my breathing and reduce stress. That really calms everything down for me. If you haven't meditated before, there are lots of videos online. Protip - it's very, very simple.

Good luck to you. I figure this journey never ends. We just keep regrouping and never stop learning

Mary - Something I find helpful, the last 8 years I have used a trainer at our gym. She is my buddy now, like a little sister, but also a hard core professional. She actually drove 5 hours round trip to go with me to pre-op meeting so she would know what I was going through.

I see her most every morning, for a hour, the accountability is why I go. Because I am encouraged there, I normally would run/jog in the evening. Running/jogging always did more for me than anything to shed pounds. A magazine/website to consider, Runners World, very good stuff.

I am NOT a runner by nature, I am built a LOT more like a football player (US Foot Ball) and very strong. But I can waddle my butt down the road and burn a world of calories. I am the only one who thinks I am waddling.... :-)

Hope that helps some... I am a big believer in accountability, so I like the trainer idea for me....

Start by walking 20 minutes a day and gradually increase your time. Leslie Sansone walking tapes are great when you can't get out to walk due to inclement weather. You can find them on utube also. Good Luck and God Bless...Mem ( As the mother of two daughters and three granddaughters we all have those times when they don't like us. I am told that boys don't do this to their moms.)

    Hi Mem

Thanks for the daughter advice. She has been very disrespectful lately

And she's 26. She said she's grown up. She cannot even spare some time to come and see me
This weekend her attitude stank. Then I realized a particular friend was visiting her. That same girl always said bad things about me years ago

I am thinking she is easily influenced by this person.
