Hi everybody,
I just got back from Tijuana yesterday, I had my sleeve done on the 12th. I went alone...and was pretty nervous, lol. But I was pleasantly surprised, the whole experience was pretty cool. I flew to San Diego, they picked me up and brought me to Tijuana to the Hotel Real del Rio. Normally they use Hotel Ticuan, but last week the hotel experienced a fire so they switched to Real del Rio. The hotel was really nice. Next day, I went to the hospital for bloodwork and surgery. It was seamless. Dr. Almanza came out ahead of time and told us what he was going to do. Then he performed the surgery on all of us that were scheduled that day.
The first couple days after...SUCK...omg...I was soooo sick. But I survived the sickness and now am doing really good. I can drink clear liquids without any problems, and eat jello and broth and feel fine. The nurses there at the hospital and in the hotel are very qualified and know what they are doing. Only reason I know this is because I asked them about their education and experience. I didn't know that the requirements to become an RN in Mexico are the same as in the US. That put my mind at ease, at least I knew they weren't just some people off the street.
I didn't have any problems with the language barrier, they all speak pretty good English. Overall, I would totally do this again with Dr. Almanza. I felt completely safe and taken care of.
The only thing I can warn is that things are done differently in Mexico. The care is still awesome, but it is different, so keep an open mind and be accepting of the differences. Good luck to everyone who chooses medical tourism in Mexico. I had a great time!
