Default Not gonna sugar coat... Bowel movement questions

I figured this would be best place to post and ask this... But is it normal in recovery (I'm 3.5 weeks out) to be backed up?

I used to be VERY regular (daily). Now it's like once every four days. I get so uncomfortable by day four.

Now I know my intake is mostly all liquid or soft diet (as of last few days), but I would think I should go more often...?

For me protein shakes were very constipating. Try adding generic benefiber or miralax to your shake or if needed take a dose of milk of magnesia.

Yup, protein can be very "clogging" it took about 10 days after surgery before having a first one. I would take a couple of swallows of the milk of magnesia every day for a few days . Walk , walk -
Honk if you want to see my finger !!

Protein shakes are clogging, some of the meds you may be on can also have that affect. Additionally, you're not getting a lot of volume or fiber. I started on a good multistrain probiotic at about 3 weeks out and it has made all the difference! It doesn't work "immediately", but where I used to have issues even preop (got way worse postop), things are very normal now. There's also some data that indicates that healthy gut bacteria is good for weight loss.

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

I'm 3 weeks out from surgery and the protein really constipates, so I have been taking milk of magnesia everyday about half the recommended amount and it seems to be helping. I took the smallest recommended dose initially and I had too much of an affect, ie diarrhea/ So I cut it in half and it seems better. Good luck to you.

I'm so glad someone had asked this question about #2! I was freaking out because I feel like I need to go Number 2 then after sitting for about 5 minutes with nothing going on I give up and get worried. I'm about 5 days post-op myself and I'm gonna ask hubby 2 go get milk of magnesia on his lunch break.

Even if you sugar coated it or covered it in those colorful little candy nonpareils, it will still be a "crappy" question.

I hope everything "came out" the way you hoped it would.
