    Default 36 fr bougie???

    Hi everyone

i met my surgeon today & everything went well so far. i'm gonna get the pre-op tests done & if they're ok (hopefully ) we'll book a surgery date asap. I just wanted 2 know if having a 36 fr bougie size is too big or not?? My dr. said that a 32 fr bougie will increase the risk of strictions/acid reflux. Also he told me that he staples & then sews up the sleeve lining 2 ensure no leaks.
i feel great about everything ...........but he kept pushing me towards the bypass..........i didn't appreciate that esp. that my bmi is 40.9.........i know i can get great results with a sleeve......his defense is that the bypass requires much less effort from my side (about food choices/quantity & exercise) than the sleeve with faster results. But i don't like the idea of being banned from sugar & carbs 4ever (dumping) & having a mal-absorptive procedure done just so i could eat freely & not exercise!

Anyway , i feel that the sleeve suits me more esp. that i'm a regular exerciser & i've been counting calories all my life, so i'm sort of well-educated about nutrition......but i need the sleeve 2 reinforce my willpower!

Well , has anyone had a 36 fr bougie & felt that it should have been tighter???

    thanks

Have you asked about the duodenal switch? It is the sleeve, and instead of a regular bypass which attaches the small intestine to a smaller stomach bypassing the pyloric valve, the DS keeps the sleeve intact then rearranges the small intestine to separate the flow of food from the flow of bile and pancreatic juices. The plyoric valve remains intact, thus eliminating the possibility of dumping syndrome.

Well the DS will be way much more expensive + it's seems like a drastic procedure that suits ppl with higher BMI numbers than me.
Also after researching about the sleeve for months now, i feel more comfortable about it i'm just concerned about the bougie size.

I wish I would have kept the link but a study 2 yrs out showed that no matter what the french size, the weight loss was the same. as far as the RnY vs. the sleeve, I personally believe that the GS provides you will a "normal" lifestyle. No real food restrictions & no special baratric menus or supplements. I couldn't be happier with my sleeve or my results. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks Dave my point 2 regarding the sleeve vs. RNY + i know 4 a fact the getting pregnant with the sleeve should be easier 2 handle i'm definitely going with the sleeve & thanx 4 letting me know that whatever the bougie size, it won't really matter concerning the amount of weight loss in the end i was really worried about that!

I was actually told that after 2 years, the results of GS and GB are almost exactly the same. GB is just quite a bit faster and a whooooole lot harder on your body!
