Default Cold all the time, especially feet

I used to be hot all the time, especially my feet. I would rarely have socks on, even in the winter (I live in Canada) and now I need socks and slippers in the house most times. I'm colder in general. Has anyone else found this and is it temporary? I used to joke before that I had so much extra padding that is why I was always warm, but I've only lost a third of my target weight and so I still have lots of extra!

Hi BigMomma - I have the same problem. I used to be the hottest one in the house and now I am the coldest! I find that my hands and feet are the coldest. I asked the doctor about this at my 1 wk post op and he said it was due to the lack of protein in my diet at that time. However, I am now about 6 weeks out and I still get cold easily.

It hasn't gotten any better for me. I freeze all the time, and have invested in fleece and flannel pj bottoms and lounge pants, thermal tops from Old navy, and toesy fleece socks that are like gloves for my feet.

ME TOO!!! I'm 6 weeks post op and I have NEVER been cold in my life! I've lost 31lbs so far and I doubt its from that amount of weight loss. I'm thinking its low iron and a touch of anemia. I was on iron supplements before surgery and I have been only been taking my multi-vitamin. So I'm going to head to GNC to see if I can find a liquid iron supplement. I get so cold that my LIPS are turning a light shade of blue in 40* weather!!! Like I have a bluish lip liner on. I guess this x-mas i'll be asking for more gloves, hats and scarves!

I have been taking iron all along so not sure if that's my problem. I also get very warm at times (though I am still mostly cold) right after I eat. So maybe my body is just really out of whack from the surgery and diet changes!

Since this surgery is covered by my insurance it seems that i know at least 30 people at my work that have had this done and the bypass. EVERY ONE of them has said they are cold after the surgery. I just had my surgery done and i have been going from either to hot, or shivering cold. My nurse said my hormones are out of wack and this tends to happen, however i do know my friends that had the bypass and are post op 1-2-3 years, and they are still cold, just something that comes with surgery i guess.

My nutritionist warned me that feeling cold was quite common after surgery.
It makes sense because calories are a measure of heat, and we're not taking in very many calories. My husband's theory is that the body is busy burning your stored fat, because you're not eating a high-calorie, high-fat diet anymore. Now I am 6 days post surgery, and I'm always cold...but I am also running a low-grade fever (around 99 degrees or 99.5). I used to sleep with the windows open in the winter and the a/c turned down to 65 degrees in the summer, but I think those days are over. Now we are using our electric mattress pad (dual controls so each person can control his/her side of the bed), and my husband bought me an electric throw for use in the family room when watching TV.

I just figure that the diet is working, if I am feeling cold.
    Diane

im pretty sure it is not an iron issue that was my first thought. my blood work show i am good togo with the iron so it has to be something else.

i too was alway hot, wore shorts in the winter etc. now i wear a shirt, a long sleave shirt, and a sweat shirt to work every day not to get to work while im at work. i work in a climate controls space that is typically around 76-78 and i feel like im in the snow with nothing on.

i guess ill save on cooling this coming year, lol
