Default Is anyone experiencing hip pain?

A fellow sleever at my workplace and I were catching up yesterday, and he mentioned that he has been experiencing a lot of hip pain, especially in bed. I have the same problem. We agreed it's probably due to the change in our stance and gait as a result of the weight loss, but it's curious how we seem to feel it almost exclusively at night in bed.

    Has anyone else experienced this?
Be the change you wish to see in the world. (Not Gandhi's exact words, but close enough)

My shoulder hurts.. always feels like a deep bruise.. I think it's because I have no fluffy stuff left and I sleep on my side... my new thing is that my tailbone hurts now...but I was warned when the fluffy goes away that I would notice bones and feel them more than ever... I feel like i've been beat every morning after waking up... but my bed is also 18 years old so I know it's time for a new mattress set

What i noticed was after i lost about 65pounds to 100 pounds my bones at night hurt. I had lost the padding (fat) that used to cushion them and so i would roll over and feel them bruising. especially hip bones and shoulder bones, any points of pressure as i lay down. As I lost more weight and my butte disappeared even my poor tail bone would be sore from sitting! This didn't last too long, it took about 4-6 months for them to toughen up and become used to the lack of padding! Also you will notice that you are much colder now that you have lost your insulation! Your inner thermostat needs time to reset to the thinner you and so you just have to dress extra warm. I was told by my Dr. that it would take about a year....but for me it was a lot more! I still get cold but after 4 years i can tell it is better than it used to be. I hope you all find this helpful or at least interesting! Love Rainbow

I am a side sleeper. I am noticing my hips are sore as well as my tail bone. I also figured it was because there isnt as much cushion there as there once was.

Its a good side affect to have I suppose lol. But man, finding comfortable sleeping positions is hard lately. I wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck sometimes.

I may have to invest in one that forms to my body... like a Tempurpedic. I always have had soft cloudy mattresses. They just might not offer enough support.

oh, and a definate yes on the being colder. My hands are typically like ice now.

Since I got below 200 lbs I have had nothing but pain. my joints are protesting all the time which sucks but I am used to it now and its becoming background noise in my life. But in bed I do notice my body seem like the bones are rubbing into the mattress and some mornings i wake up with bruises where my bones lay against my skin. Doctors don't understand any of my issues I also have Chorea (involuntary motions) that developed after weight loss. I believe that my body is just healing its self after 22 years of seriously doing damage with the things I ate. I almost feel like my body is still detoxing in many ways from all of that processed food and all the horrible things i used to eat. I do notice with the hip pain especially I had to make my own pillow that fits between my knees and keeps my hips in line when i sleep on my side or they pull out of place. I have a FB page I have been working on just for the ugly side of after the weight loss and your body doesnt seem to be healthy it seems to be hurting or worse. I still say if you are on the fence and feel you need this surgery to lose weight then DO IT I am glad I did I just have other things to deal with now that I wasn't expecting. And my FB page is about the things we didnt expect after losing weight that aren't the happy wonderful things.
I wish you all the best and hope you find relief from the pain.

Being overweight our bodies get out of alignment so it would probably be a good idea to see a chiropractor to get everything back into alignment. Now that I have increased my distance and speed when I run I seem to get out of alignment more often so I go and get adjusted every 3 weeks. Stretching will help tremendously as well.
My weight at start of my 2 week pre-op diet was 232
My weight on the morning of surgery was 221

I notice a big difference when I stretch and when I don't. My first visit to the chiropractor might be coming next!
