omg, your kidding me (about the JP drain) ummm thats a little bit scary. Mine is finally draining a lot less as of yesterday but they told me it had to stay in... that is so odd. Maybe you were not bleeding that much, and they felt it was not needed anymore? When do you see your doctor again? If you dont mind me asking, did you have any other problems that had to be resolved during the surgery, like hernia or gallstones?

Thats wierd, I can only speak from my own experience. I had my surgery on a Monday Evening, and ealry to mid day Wednsday the Doctor came and pulled my drainage tube out. So I wouldn't be too worried about that. I am also sure that if it wasn't supposed to come out, that it would have been caught by someone before you went back home. It sounds like they have the classic problem of too many chiefs, and not enough indians.

It was a somewhat surprising the way she yanked it out without notice. She said it's best that way, lol. One problem I had to resolve before the surgery was to stop smoking. I quit about a year ago but relapsed right before the surgery. Nerves I guess. So it had to be postponed for six weeks.

Yeah, they did seem to be a little disorganized sometimes. There were a couple of decisions where the nurse overrode the resident. She did seem more experienced and self confident though. He actually told me to continue with my water pills for high blood pressure. Kinda crazy when the goal is to avoid dehydration, especially right after surgery. She told me to ignore him and to stop the pills which I did.

As a nurse myself, let me tell you that she was probably alot more on top of what needed done than the resident! They are not in that rotation as long as she has probably worked in that area. Not to say he was not good, just that they dont get alot of time in that area of specialty.

I think you hit it right on the head. She obviously knew what she was doing more than him.

Oh yeah, it hurts! But only for a second or two. It only hurt when it was coming out. Let me know how it works out.

I was told where the drain tube lies inside us is against two nerves & that will cause us back pain & chest pain etc etc... & after they remove the tube we are suppose to feel relief & the pain goes away.

    So I'm told.......?

Yes that is true, I have a friend who had the bypass and she was left with the drain and that's exactly the pain she described.

You know i was having a lot of back pain, but i thought it was from the way i was sleeping and then i thought it was my kidneys lol but now that it has been removed, it seems to be gone, so you must be right.

"I however do not think it caused me THAT MUCH BACK OR CHEST PAIN" to worry anyone, it was hardly noticeable compared to all the other abdominal pain

As for them taking it out of my stomach yesterday... well- its not fun- but then again i take anxiety medication because im one of those people lol
it does feel "weird" like a snake feeling- and it was slightly "uncomfortable"
but the lady in the office told me a trick..

Breath in a deep breath when they are cutting the stitches and as so as u feel them tug on the tube BREATH OUT REALLLLLLLL HARD.by the time your done breathing out, the tube is out. it worked for the most part. was a tiny sore
for a few minutes and then it went away.

Hello. Recovery is different for everyone. I am 3 weeks post op and am quite uncomfortable. It takes time and everyone's tolerance to pain varies.
It will get better as those first days, at least for me were the worst. Hang in there and use the pain killers. Contact your doctor if you don't feel the pain is subsiding.
