I was at a mandatory support meeting and heard some interesting things. Several people who were 1-2 years post opt said they can now eat anything and chug water. Naturally they cannot eat as much but my belief is everyone is different and the law of averages says you will most likely have a new outlook on food and life if you give yourself some time. Maybe its time to start spoiling yourself with a spa treatment or whatever girls do. I hope your expectations are not so high that you expect 180 change in the first month. Time is your friend.

I spent a year in therapy and it was so helpful dealing with the real issues around my excessive eating. It wasn't easy, but worth it. I also read Intuitive Eating and really found it valuable.

You'll get through this, with a brand new shiny sleevie to help. Hugs to you!

I totally understand, totally empathize. If I could give one word of encouragement it would be to let yourself heal -body -mind - spirit for 6 weeks. Things really do change after then and your mood will lift and you will be able to channel some of the distress into exercise and healthy meal planning!
I did a lot of reading in the first 6 weeks to keep my mind off food and recovery! .... so many thrillers!!!!
    Love and blessings!

I'm a guy so its very hard for me to understand the way I'm feeling some times. Thanks for posting this. I didn't understand what I was feeling until I read this. I miss the food but I want the smaller me more. God bless you in your times of despair and may he carry you through. What has helped me so far with staving off those feelings is staying as active as I can. Not giving my brain time to think about the loss is big. I think talking about this to your support structure will also help tremendously. Stay positive, stay busy, and stay committed.

I am not sure if you had to do this or not, but I had to follow a diet 7 weeks after surgery. Every stage was two weeks and after week 6 I could eat regular food. Believe me, when those first two weeks were over, I was soooo happy to eat some blended chicken! You will get there! You are only in your second week after the surgery.

This subject and all the positive responses are so helpful! I'm not sleeved yet (op is Oct. 28th) but I'm constantly thinking about post op and how I will feel emotionally. Thank god I've got a great support system both on this forum and with friends and family. The best advice I've heard is to take it one day at a time and acknowlege your emotions and feelings. It's ok to yell out loud this really sucks! The long term results will outweight the short term challenge of being brain hungry and missing solid food for a while. It's got to be done to go through the process. Bring it! I'm ready! I can do this & so can you Missy1973. Hang in there hun & keep reaching out for support!!
