I've been reading and planning for a 2-4 week liquid pre op diet. Turns out my surgeon only requires a 2 day diet. Anyone else have that? Is it enough? I trust he knows best, just wondering why they vary so much.
It's so crazy all the different pre-op plans. My surgeon required a 2 week liquid meal replacement diet. They were very specific about me having 1200 calories a day of meal replacement shakes. I cheated a couple of times and had wonton soup because I just needed something salty after all those sweet shakes. My surgery went well also. Good luck on yours!
Not sure why pre-op diets vary so much but I'm currently day 2 of my 14 day pre op diet. It's a mixture of protein shakes, Sf jello, SF pudding, plain oatmeal, and veggies. It's not so bad and I woke up this morning 3 pounds lighter. I'm looking forward to seeing how much weight I will lose in these 2 weeks.
I only have to have one day of clear liquids as well. I'm thinking of doing a liquid diet of some sort a little before that so after the surgery it won't be too much of a shock.
My surgeon only requires a 1 day liquid diet which scares me. I was reading up on it and the reason some surgeons require a 2 week diet is because when you are overweight your liver is overweight and by doing the diet it helps shrink the liver. I googled some pre-op diets and I am going to start my own 2 weeks prior.
I have to do a 2 week and i am on day 3. It is harder than I thought. It would be so much easier if I didn't have to work and do it. lol I am nauseous almost everyday but i think it is because of my multi vitamin. I am allowed to eat 4oz of lean meat with unlimited nonstarchy veggies for dinner but have to have protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and sip on water all day. I am just ready to be sleeved already! lol
My surgeon recommended a 10 day low fat diet. However I wanted to go about it was up to me. My nutritionist said she would see people end up with complications from eating too soon after surgery when they required a liquid pre-op diet.

I had two days liquid only pre-op diet. I had to do the two week one with the band so I kept asking my doc if he was sure it was only 2 DAYS. The nutritionalist did suggest I increase my protein levels a month ahead of time to 100-125 to build up a store to get me through those first few weeks post surgery.
My Dr. wanted a two week pre op diet of protein shakes, clear liquids, sugar free jello, an d salads. She said it helps to shrink the liver so there's more room to maneuver the tools inside your abdomen. I had some issues getting my General Practitioner to complete my paper work and give me clearances for surgery. So I had my surgery bumped twice. Needless to say I was not a happy camper starting my pre op diet only to have my surgery bumped. I went on and off the pre op diet twice. Talk about yoyo. lol. Anyway things are finally in order and I'm set to have my surgery this coming Monday. I am so ready this pre op diet sucks as you an imagine... Only 5 more days.
