    Default Trouble drinking enough liquids

I'm one day out of hospital, surgery on Friday.

My Kaiser nutritionalist said 1.5-2 bottles of isopure and then a lot of water.

My wife insists that isopure does not count as hydration, but I thought that it did.

Regardless I'm just constantly bloated and stuffed trying to gently force down more liquids.

    Any advice?

Ugh, that sounds terrible! Maybe your fellow Kaiser brethren on http://www.gastricsleeve.com/forum/g...ersations.html can help you out? We've got 20 members, one of whom is going to surgery on Tuesday, maybe someone's heard something about what to do.

I'd also suggest talking to Nina, who's experimented w/ a lot of different liquids:

According to Dr Alvarez's book, any liquid counts towards your total intake including the Protein drinks/shakes. I read it several times because I had been thinking like you...how could we possibly do two or three Protein drinks a day PLUS 64 more oounces.

Yes; any liquid will do in a pinch, it's all about what you can tolerate, though. The bloat sounds like gas; have you tried the walking walking walking regime? Also sip walk sip walk as tolerated?

Isopure definitely counts toward your liquids. I understand the confusion though, lots of people ask that question.

I am Kaiser and a lil over 3 weeks out. Anything you drink counts toward liquids. However, post surgery I was on clear liquids for 3 days. Walking helped the bloating feeling for me.

Christy----GET TO DUSTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHAHA honestly, I am ready to go and purchase new walking shoes---AGAIN!!! I feel like Forest Gump----

OK it is 8:45 am Pacific time Monday morning and I just spoke to Linda---She is NOT doing so well. She is still puking and diarrhea. This sent her to emergi-care down the street for some saposatories (sp) to help her not dehydrate. Please lift her in prayer and pass the word. She is going to try to get online but said to be sure to tell everyone that she had just had a shot and some broth and was asked to do the video. Hmmmmmm-----at that time she DID feel good---DRUGS!!! She is working on keeping pop sickles and water down (or in). I am going to put this post on everything that comes to my email so that I get everyone covered. Thanks in advance for your concern and prayers. Linda is well aware that we are all cheering for her. OH---the hold up at gunpoint is probably just this NUT that was there who had some face work done. I will try to keep you all posted. Connie

Christy - I would highly recommend it. I have been pacing around my rather small place like a fiend and I am sure I am driving my downstairs neighbors crazy. For the first few days I was having trouble with my blood sugar being too low (as a diabetic, this is kind of great), but I didn't want to talk down the two flights of stairs and not be able to get back up. So, I did "laps" in my house. The past two days I did get downstairs to walk and go to Target. Some people mall walk. I Target walk. 4 full laps, pushing a cart. Now I have Tropical Depression Lee sitting on my head. The thought of slipping or having to run in the rain is not good. So, I am back to laps in the house. A treadmill on low would be really helpful. And believe me if you get gas pains, you will not be able to sit still. At least I couldn't. I like to get up and walk around for at least 15 minutes right after each meal. It helps me not drink and it helps me not get gas.
    Best,

I struggled for weeks to drink even 20-30 oz a day, but finally am able to take a normal-ish sip without pain.
Still probably not drinking enough, though.
But I would suggest drinking Gatorade G2 (it's the lower calorie Gatorade) so you're at least getting electrolytes, which will help you not feel so dehydrated. My nutritionist said it's not the first choice of beverage, but it is preferable if you cannot drink enough, especially in those first few weeks.

I'm sorry. I had to post a correction for Kaiser. For Kaiser Isopure does not count towards the 64 oz of hydration.

Kaisers online documentation is vaguely worded and apparently they sent home a sheet of paper I had no knlowedge of until today. No Kaiser documentation I've seen post op comes out and say in plain text to not count isopure as hydration.

I asked the Bariatric dept today on the phone and that's the answer they gave.
I'm not sure how it's possible to get in 84oz of liquids a day. I might be able to now on day four, but certainly not on day 1 or 2.
