This is my first post. I saw my bariatric dr last week. I have to do a 6 month, dr guided diet. I see my pcp to start that this Thursday. What did you have to do for your pre surgery diet?

At Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, your pre-op diet is determined by your BMI. If you have a BMI of 50 or above, two weeks prior to surgery you are on a full liquid protein shake diet. If your BMI is 49 or less you're on the full liquid diet for one week prior to surgery. During this period you can also have sugar free Popsicles and sugar free jello.
HI Tamjoho,
I think each Dr and program do things a bit different. I think for the most part its according to BMI. First time I saw my Dr my BMI was 41. I lost 10lbs in the next 2 months on my own. Two weeks prior to surgery I was on a liquid (protein drinks mostly) diet. This is more to shrink your liver to make it easier for the Dr to get to your stomach. Each Dr has their own protocol....follow it...its worth it in the long run.
Im now 1 month out from surgery and have lost about 30 lbs!
I haven't had any problems as far as foods that don't agree with me. I have the mind set now that I wont put anything unhealthy in my new stomach! I have to remind myself to eat now.
Hang in there...you can do it!!

I start my pre-op diet on Thursday. It will consist of 2 protein shakes a day, 2 other soured of non milk based liquid protein such as unflavored protein added to crystal light or protein chicken soup. Also I am allowed 6 servings per day of either...sugar free jello, plain oatmeal, sugar free pudding, light yogurt, raw/cooked veggies. It's not an exciting diet at all and I will be thrilled when October 30th arrives!
